It won't hurt it so much that you shouldn't do it. Put it this way. I've read a normal CPU at stock speeds runs for 10 years, while a sufficiently (not excessive) overclocked CPU last about 5. I find it benficial to overclock. Look at it this way. Why buy a new CPU to just get hmmmm 200mhz. Most CPUs can overclock that. With this XP2100 I would not overclock it, the thing runs too damn hot already. Unlocked with a high FSB, that's all I want.

Thumbs Up!

Alrighty, I got that ThermalTake Volcano 7+ heatsink. It knocked 10c off of the the previous idle temp of 51.5c with the stock AMD heatsink to 41.5c with the Volcano 7+. I have it's fan set to high. If I set it to medium, it raises the temp about 2-4c. I'm probably going to use the medium setting, it's a noisy bastard when set to high.

So it is good, me thinks.

Mine should be here tomorrow, I'm hoping for similar results!

I have a better fan and heatsink that you do Raydar but my idle temps are still 50-52. That's with the fan at 4100-4200 rpm.

When set to high, the rpm's are 6000 or so, medium is around 4800, low is on the mid-range of 3000 on this Volcano 7+. Maybe that has something to do with it. I also have an exaust fan right next to the CPU fan blowing out of the back of the tower.

I currently have the Volcano 7+ set to medium (until summertime anyway ) and I'm getting 44.5c.

Yeah, but the 2200 is the T-Bred core...it runs at least 10C cooler to begin with. The 2100 is a Palamino core...

I got your answer !!!!!!

that is common check you core voltage alot of boards detect it wrong if you bio's lets you set it. Try setting it down just a notch or two. The real accurate cpu temp is supposed to be never above 50C (but most motherbard sensors are unacurate and must contact the cpu right to get a good reading)...after 50C you begin to experience errors, more crashes, running your cpu higher than that, even if it runs good, you risk frying your cpu's cache!!! 60C would be unacceptable. make sure you have a couple of case fans going two intakes in the front, exhaust in the back.. I have a 120 mm (80 cu ft) in the front and two 80 mm and 1 60 mm in the back mine runs about 36 to 38C with a volcano 5CU+ and arctic silver III . HERE'S AN INSANE TRICK!!! I never trust sensors> what I do is get my system running (case off) and run a 3d game reach in and carefully touch the side of your heatsink it should be cool ( if your lucky) or room temp, if hot or warm something's wrong (turn down your cpu voltage a little then try again make sure to make only small ajustments) Make sure not to touch anything else or you'll light up like a christmas tree.

Guys a lot of utilities read the temps wrong. I have a MSI motherboard and the utility that it came with reads the temp of the CPU as 43*C idle... but in every single other program... They read it as 37*C 5 applications to 1 says that the MSI software reads the temps wrong. Try Mother Board Monitor, SpeedFan ... or some other program theat reads the chipset. Good Luck!

I've tried all those programs and they all give me the same temps. And Y2K3...some XP2000 were also made with T-Bred core.

i've heard in many places around the net that AMD XP processors have a brown and greeen wafer.

the green wafer is supposed to be cooler when running than the brown one..

i've got the green one ...so that probably helps my temps

What? That makes no sense, the only diff is the location where they were manufactured, unless AMD is hiding something from everyone.

So I dunno.... I can't get this bitch to boot at all. What happens when you cut the bridges too deep? Does the cut contact ground itself and never boot? I am just so lost with this unlock. Tried 3 different method (except the L1 with the wire trick). I have already cut the L3 and L4 and I can't reconnect them and get the damn thing to boot. I think I'm gonna get a 2200 cuz I'm sick of this processor (i'm on my 1.33 Thunderbird now). THIS BLOWS. Anyone?

Nah, I just bought a XP2000 about three hours ago online. I wanted to get the 2100 again...But unlocking it just involves toooooooo much work. Yes, I follow PC Stats, and I used a needle as did you. I just don't know whether I cut too deep or if I just have something shorting out. The CPU won't even post or anything now. I tried reversing everything...but I get nothing from it. Nothing any way. It sucks.

I was wondering if my CPU was running hot at 42c...however reding this thread has helped me realize it's not...I'm running an AthlonXP 2000+ with a Coolermaster Heat Pipe Copper HSF and thermal compound. Anyway, thanks for the helpful thread...
