best bet
With my current system (specs in my sig) what would be my best bet in doing?
Options: 1. Keeping my existing RAM, buy a P4 850 board and get a new P4 2.4B processor 2. Keeping my existing RAM & processor, buy a new P4 850 board & get a $250 video card. 3. Buying a new Athlon XP (266 bus), 512Mb DDR400 & nForce2 board w/ dual channel DDR support. 4. Keep my existing processor & video card and buy a board that supports 3200 RD-RAM (32bit). 5. Wait for Springdale chipset, prices for options 1, 2, 3, & 4 will go down. Thanks, Dom. |

If you don't need to buy now, then option 5. I'd also say that black text on dark blue background is pretty much unreadable

I'd have to say option 3. But you probably knew that.

Why not get a Thoroughbred and do 10 x 200? Or 12.5 x 166?

I'd say:
Definitely not 3 or 4. If you can only get an xp1800 with 3, heh no point in spending the money. And I just don't think 4 will do too much for you, not like the others. Probably 1 or 2 are cool. 1, if you're gonna overclock that sucker, but be careful of the Northwood Death Syndrome (or something) that I've heard of. 2 is an option because it will boost your gaming more than any of the others, I think. Heck, you could probably get a non-pro 9700! Probably more than twice as fast as your ti200 in something like UT2003 5 is always an option, but not always the better choice. Just use your best judgement

I'm going for door number 2.
Reason is you will notice the most difference with that upgrade. You maybe not able to get a Springdale board now but so what? You'll be able to use the Hyperthreading processors and can upgrade that later. Matter of fact you should be able to get a 850 board that will also support the faster rambus memory too. Option 2 gives you room for upgrading and is cost effective. P.S. If you don't game much option one would be better but with a 2.53GHz P4. |
