true, I went from a P4 system 530 processor 3.0ghz w/ HT to an A64 3200+ and Even though my athlon is supposed to be a bit faster at times I think my P4 was a little faster for jsut general web browsing and when I use photoshop and other programs at once. But when it comes to gaming. My A64 pawns the P4 I had any day!

If you want your system to be more future proof I say go for the X2. If you want to have gaming performance now with the option to upgrade later then go w/ the 3700+. At least that's my take.

I also agree about the performance of the 6600GT. for the money you can't go wrong. If you have the cash, I'd go for a 6800GT or 7800GT/GTX. You can always get one gfx card now and add another one later. With SLI you just have to make sure they are the same make/model card. Some people have said that you have to have the same gfx card bios too, but I'm not entirely sure that is the case. I have 2 MSI 6600Gt's and one is rev. 2.0 and the other is rev. 2.01 and I haven't had any issue with them.

The Asus A8N-SLI Deluxe is a good mobo, my only word of caution is that the chipset fans on them are crap. The fans are loud and they have a history of failing. It is an easy fix, just stick a zalman heatsink on there. I have also heard of people using a swiftec one. Also, they do tend to be a little picky with memory so make sure your ram is qualified for the board. Corsair has some good ram that is qualified. Check out the XMS series.

otherwise the A8N-SLI rocks. (I have had some memory controller issues, but I think I've isolated it to the memory controller on my cpu. I'm just going to wait till I hear back from Asus and get my new ram before I rma it. for those of you wondering. I'll keep you up to date)

last year, the 6800GT was one step below high end. today the same card i consider it a mid range card. for about $100 more you can get a 7800GT, when if you think about it on a performance scale, would be slightly better than two 6800GTs in SLI. I think that if one will be purchasing a 6800GT, save up an extra $100 and get a 7800GT instead .

Yes, one 6800GT will be slightly better than two 6600GT's. I would imagine that one 7800GT or GTX would be slightly better than two 6800GT's.
What your choose will depend largly on what performance you want and how much money you have. When I bought my 6600GT I wanted to get a 6800GT but I just didn't have the cash flow at the time and I needed something better than the X300SE that I had.

thank you all for answering my questions and giving me your insights. I have decided to wait about two months before purchasing the parts I need.
