Burning Speeds...
Ok, for some reason my Nec 3520A DVD-RW drive isn't burning CDR's at the max speed. Apparently it should burn them at 48X, but I can only get 8X or 16X using Nero 6.3.
I can't figure out why it's doing that. Anybody got any ideas?

Nero 6 version isnt what i we can call a good software ... you should go for the last 5 version or buy the 7 one ... Crappy disk can also be a problem because nero does analyze the disk before burning and suggest you the right burning speed for your disk .
I myself found that the 16x DVD+R from memorex isnt recognize as 16X media by nero but only 8X .

like i said go with another nero version 5.xx or 7.xx . Also keep in mind that "can be burned by" and burn rate compatilble at ##X speed are 2 separate things .

You might wanna double-check your IDE setup and make sure your DVD-RW drive is running at full speed rather than, say, PIO4 or UDMA33. You might have to explicitly set this in the BIOS since some will use a slow speed by default if a CD-ROM-like device is on that ATA channel.
Also, you should double-check exactly which media types your drive claims to burn at full speed on, it's common for burners to run at half their max speed, or even a quarter speed even, if you use other media.
