changing the processor

do you need to reinstall your OS and everything once you change your processor?

System Specs

Usually not, but depending on what kind of a switch it is there might be some work necessary. Check in the device manager that it has been correctly identified.

reformat the system/boot partition is not neccessary. however, you probably need to perform an in-place upgrade (repair installation or reinstall Windows on the same/existing folder). this to have the Windows setup program reenumerates PnP devices, including the HAL.

before you make the changes i suggest you backup all your needed files from the system/boot partition(s) or the Windows drive(s) first.

i myself made the simple move of going from a 64 3000+ 939 to the x2 4400+..... loaded windows up no problem.... but i never saw a major preformance increase until i formated and reinstalled completely... and with an x2 4400+...... trust me.. it don't take long...
