Sad Totaly messed up my computer

well as a lot of you guys know i recently upgraded my computer and all of that good stuff.... well last night i took my computer to my friends house and i wanted to be connected to the internet, and the only way to be connected is taking out the wireless PCI slot from his bros PC to put into mine....

well being the gullible moron that i am... i took it out and put in my computer, than i installed the software, and in the installation guide after you install the drivers it says, now stick in the pci card into the pci slot and a windows device thingy will popup

well WHILE MY COMPUTER WAS RUNNING i took it out and put it back in... and what do u know? bam my computer shuts of

so im all like oh thats nothing... i turn on my computer and every thing turns on but nothing happends.... the graphic card fan is running full speed waiting to be booted (cuz like 5 seconds after the pc is turned on it goes down to its normal speed) and the harddrive wont start up...

luckily i have some great friends that tried to help me on the phone (reset bios etc...) anyways my friend thinks i fried the motherboard ( I HOPE because if some of u guys saw my post in the selling section i bought 2 of the same motherboards my accident) so if its the motherboard i will just take it out and put in the extra one that i had instead of selling it.

anyways my friends dad knows A LOT about computers (i was thinking he knows about as much as me but he really does know a lot) he was explaining that when the pc is on and u plug something in like a PCI device theres a current going through it (or something like that.. basicaly explainning why this would happen) and he also said i probably fried the motherboard because the computer works everything is spinning the only thing that isnt starting up is the harddrive, bios wont turn on... its only a blank screen, and the computers fans are running FULL speed waiting for something to load so they can go down to low speeds again....

luckily i have today off of school

anyways just wanted to share with u my special story of me being a moron

I've broken a few things in my day, BUT PUTTING IN A CARD WITH THE COMPUTER ON!? Dude, you should not be touching computers, I don't know what you were thinking. This is beyond moronic.

Did you use your cd-rom tray as a cupholder too?

Yup sure sounds like the motherboard took a crap. However, hopefully that didn't spike your 3.3V, and take out your ram with it. Let us know. BTW, I highly recommend this.

Great once you download the drivers. I use it to work on computers with.

yeah i realised what i did was retarted lol i would of never expected myself to do such a dumb mistake haha... once i get home im going to put in my other xtra motherboard and see if it works (hopefully) but yeah.... dude i can go bitch at netgear because their manual didint say make sure the computer is off while you enter the PCI card (if i was really bad like some other americans id sue them cuz in america u can sue for any little thing )

but yeah i really really hope it was only the mobo.... its going to be a pain to remove and put it all back in but its alright

EDIT: regarding that post... i build computers, and im not a noob when it comes to them i was just tired and i wasnt thinking of what i was doing until i realised that my pc shut off

Dont feel too bad, I almost did that when I built the rig I have now. The comp wouldn't post (didnt plug something in), so, not thinking the computer was on (becasue nothing was happening) and being in a big rush (bad), and being to tired to do that stuff (just after a bday party for my daughter), I almost took out the memory with the machine on. Luckly I got my head together or I would be in the same ship (or worse), lol.

I hope for your sake the mobo is the only thing damaged. Who knows, maybe you can get a refund.

got cut a tiny bit while changing stuff around but that always happens

lol i was installing a eithernet card once, plugged it in, booted up, wouldnt work
swapped in another card from a diff comp to see if it would work, it did.
spent a few hours trying to figure out why this card didnt work,
plugged it in again and realized last time i didnt push down on it hard enough, it wasnt plugged in all the way
