Processor not registering correctly

I have a Syntax k7sv400 mb and although a cheap board it has been a good board. However the problem lies in the fact that yesterday I chose to upgrade the processor to a AMD xp2400+ from the AMD xp2000+. Now it shows in the bios and in win xp that I have a amd xp1500+ processor. I know that the processor is not that and is what I originally called it. It was just removed from a pc that was upgraded to another mb and processor. I have searched over syntax's website and dl all the updates to the bios and flashed that last night to no avail. I am at my wits end and ready to just change back the processor. I did checked and the clock speeds are the same for the two processors and so is the fsb setting.

Here are the details of this puter:
SV400 Motherboard w/ amd xp2400+
1 GIG ddr 2100 or 2700 ram....not 100% sure and chips give no clue
Nvidia GEforce 5600 video
Win Xp Home
ethernet Card
Dvd/rw drive
160 gig hd

Is your cpu an xp2400 or a sempron ??

k7 processors like the athlon xp and sempron register their names according to the speed they are running at
for example my old 2500+ would register as 3200+ if the FSB was upped to 200mhz (400)

make sure your fsb setting is correct (it may be set to 100, try 133 or 166)

Did you clear the CMOS after you put the new processor in? If so and it still registers incorrectly then you probably need to do a BIOS update to get it to register correctly.

I have checked and the bios has been updated after the new chip was installed. I also am not sure whether it is a sempron or xp but both run the same fsb for a socket A/462. The prongs are set for 133mhz and that was checked and triple checked. Actually tried all the settings with no success. System would not even start xp when I moved the prongs to 166mhz or to the not applicable spot on the board. Have not reset the CMOS due to the fact that the bios was flashed after the chip was installed.

133? thats only an effective speed of 266mhz - definately wrong imo, it should be at least 166 for an athlon xp iirc

it sounds like the ram is your problem, if it really is pc2100 you should replace it with higher speced ram to allow your CPU to reach it's stock speed

Well solved my own problem. The chip is a 2400+ but it is a sempron which runs at a 333mhz fsb. I would have to change ram to pc2700 to achieve that with this board. thanks for the help though.
