dvd woes
first off i would like to thank everyone who helped me figure out my ide controller problem earlier (dig, dom, necrosis, matth, louie, toshiro, and vampy). optical drives need to be on their own channel and far away from hdd's. lesson learned.
now on to this new situation. simply put, i cannot get my dvdrom to even see a dvd let alone view it. it can read cd's and cdr's...audio, text, executables, and other vid files but not a standard region1 movie. things i've tried: -enabled/disabled dma (ultra dma 2,3 and pio) -jumpers to cable select, master, and slave -its currently on its own ide controller but its also shared with other drives to no success (see other post) -installed/unistalled latest and greatest via 4n1s, used win ide controllers to no avail -flashed the latest 2 versions of firmware -went to the dvdrom manufacturer site, installed their ide driver no matter what i tried, i could still play cd's and run install cd's on the drive...just not my dvd movies. the movies are all region 1 and the drive is set for region 1. the dvdrom in question is an Afreey 10x DD-4010E. the dvd in question is the Sopranos season 3 box set (none work on my box but are viewable on my standalone memorex dvd player). blockbuster and hollywood video dvds work fine on my box so far. any ideas?

One quick question.
Which DVD player are you using?

)Hmmm, have you tried playing another copy of Sopranos on your drive? Like can you rent it somewhere, or borrow from someone? Just to see if it's the whole production of that set, or if it's your particular box set.

Lemme rephrase that...
..which software DVD player are you using to try to view the 3rd season of the Sopranos on your Afreey 10x DD-4010E?

let me attempt at clarifing....
the Sopranos 4 dvd set doesnt work on my dvdrom using PowerDvd v4.0 but works on a standalone Memorex dvd player hooked up to tv. i rented Enemy at the Gates from the video store and it worked on the dvdrom.

Ahh, have you tried other software? And I still suggest trying to get (rent, perhaps?) another copy of the Sopranos to see if it's just your set

Dumb question, but I gotta ask it.
I know it's a new set of DVDs, but did you look at the bottom to make sure they ain't scratched or dirty?

Sounds like it could be an issue betweem yer dvd-player and copy-write protection. If so there's not much to be done until a newer firmware comes out..Although you could try an e-mail to their tech support ...if nothing else it will make them aware of a problem.
