Please Help!!!!!!!!!
Hi all, hope im writing in the right place,
My friends comp(i sold him it a year ago)is all buggered up!when you turn it on,it does all the loading up to the log on screen name part.then the screen goes black, and says NO INPUT SIGNAL,then reboots and repeats the process.he has been told it needs a format but i really cant see how this will help.it started doing the mentoined about a week before it did it all the time.i thought it could have been the graphics card but it loads upto the log-in screen fine.we have tried logging in in safe mode too but still does the same thing! Any ideas appreciated! thanks! |

Have you tried another graphics card? If possible, install a different one (remove the current one) and see if you get the same problem. You may also want to try a different monitor to see if thats the problem. If nothing works there, it may be a mobo issue. If anything, see if it boots to a CD (windows XP should do fine) just to see if maybe the porblem is with the OS installation. A format, if possiblem might be a good idea, but I wouldnt do that without trying other things first.
Welcome to DH, hopefully we can help you out. |

that exact thing happened to an emachines i was working on recently.
it was a video driver conflict in my case, the machine wanted nvidia and not the ati card I had in. refused to boot to windows. easily sorted by sticking an old nvidia i had lying around in, using driver cleaner and installing new drivers. |

My mom's e-Machine does the exact same thing if I try putting in an add-in video card. It insists on using the onboard graphics for some reason. It's the only one like this that's given me any trouble. So, for now, she's stuck with using the onboard graphics card.

I should say that it did take me two go's to get it to boot with a different card. and I'm pretty sure i changed a couple things in the bios, but can't remember exactly what. they're just generally a pain in the posterior to work on though.

To niceguyrichy and g35x:
Yes, I tried turning off the onboard video in the BIOS, turned off Share Memory w/ Video...the whole gamut. It just refuses to boot into windows w/ an onboard video. Maybe once I get my mom moved to her new place I can spend some more time with it. What I did in the meantime is increase the amount of system RAM to 512 MB. That helps her a lot. |
