Internet browser that quadruples surf speed wins Irish science prize

http://newsobserver.com/24hour/techn...-5244591c.html

Quote:
The software was tested by scientists at University College, Dublin last week and they found it boosted surfing speeds by between 100 and 500 percent depending on the basic dial-up connection rate.
Under what conditions??

Quote:
"At seven times it actually crashes so I have limited it to six."
Sounds fishy, that

The rate at which NEW and UNVISITED / UNLINKED pages is a factor soley of the transfer speed from the server.

It can be made faster using compression - but that's a double-ended process, or to appear faster by intelligent fetch order and partial rendering (to get the on-screen part fetched and rendered first)

Cache prefetchers are merely a CHEAT, and work only if you follow the path they expect you to take!

Unless this is proven on a random selection of UNLINKED pages, which I very much doubt, then it's just a con trick!

Mozilla is the word man, Mozilla... Opera may be nice and all, but you can get a mod for Mozilla adding mouse shortcut support, and Opera makes you watch ads...

I remember older builds of mozilla were pretty buggy, are they better now? I'll go try it out. (My Opera doesn't make me watch ads)

I still stick to IE under a Windows environment, but Phoenix is looking promising.

If you like IE but want some extra features like Opera has it (tabs) i encourage you to cehck out www.crazybrowser.com (sometimes the site looks down, just look up on google for crazybrowser).

It uses the IE engine but has REALLY awesome features added.

For browsing, I just use IE6. Any problems I ever have are router related (dang built-in firewall)

For making updates to my little webspace, I use Netscape.
