Hi NF, welcome to DH.

It's time for you to learn to build your own computer. Don't buy from E-Machines, gather good quality components and build a rig for yourself. You will get a better rig, for cheaper, and the satisfaction of having be your own creation. If you need any help with your project, you have come to the right place, people around here are extremely helpful.

How much are you looking to spend?

well, the emachines one only has onboard video, so that would hit the games quite a bit. There is however a pci express slot available, so you can always buy another video card. As far as a percentage goes... no idea (probably wont get one, very hard to do). With the games you pay, I doubt you will see any read improvement, as those games run very well (I assume) on the machine you currently have. For future games, a decent video card would get you playing just about anything you want for a while.

edit: I also agree with Rasta, its always better to build your own machine. Its easy as pie, and saves you loads of cash.

Here is a parts list that may suit you (there is no optical drive, as I thought that could come out of your current rig):

  • Antec Black Case 400W, Model #: TX640B $98.99
  • ABIT AN8-ULTRA $114.00
  • GIGABYTE X800XL $254.00
  • AMD Athlon 64 3500+ - Retail $202.00
  • OCZ Performance 1GB (2 x 512MB) $114.43
  • HITACHI Deskstar 250GB Hard Drive $108.00
  • Microsoft Windows XP Pro $146.95
Subtotal: $1,038.37

You could make this cheaper with a cheaper video card, and your own copy of Windows. This is guaranteed to BURY that EMachines setup, and to be easily upgradable in the future, unlike many prebuilt units.

But my bros comp i think is slower then mine here is his specs

E-Machine
Intel Celaron 2.6Ghz(Or its 2.4Ghz i dont really know lol)
40GB HardDrive
512Ram
ATI 9250 PCI 128MB
Windows XP Home Edition

Again, the systems video card is lacking, so your brothers performance would probably not get any better in games. Yes the processor and RAm is better, but GPU is what matters in games.

What model of E-Machine? A CPU upgrade and some more RAM might give you a substantial boost...those P4-based Celerons are pretty weak.

For $300, you can't get a whole lot. sure, it'll be better than what your brother has now, but it won't be anything fantastic. well, at least to today's standards. and like rasta has stated, see if you can build your own machine. it's not very hard to do so. you just gotta be careful on not to fubar anything up. if you like putting stuff together, then this would be right up your alley!

the external bus is more commonly known as the FSB (Front Side Bus). It is rather slow to today's P4 processors, as a large majority of them have 800Mhz FSB.

your processor has a 100Mhz FSB with a multiplier of 4 (effective 400Mhz FSB), but like i just said, today's CPUs are 800Mhz (200Mhz w/ multiplier of 4).

Upgrade

That EMachines model has an i845g chipset motherboard, so it should support a 533 FSB PIV, which would run craploads faster than that celeron. I found suitable parts for you online.

YOU WILL NEED TO CALL EMACHINES & VERIFY THAT THESE PARTS WILL WORK!

1 GB Crucial PC2100 for $106.
2.53 Pentium 4 (Northwood) for $245.

That would give that little Pee Machine a huge boost.

I second qwhat Rasta said!!!!I baught Alienware and Falcon NW systems for 7 to 8 years UNTIL I came here.I had built my own rig in less than 2 months after I started hanging out here. The rig was up and running in 4 hours! It's not hard at all.If you can build a fairly complex model car you can build youre own rig!And as Rasta said,You ARE at the right place. No one will laugh at you here!We might laugh WITH you but we will not laugh AT you. E-Bay that rig you have now, take the $$$ you were gonna spend on the new rig and build it youreself.Plus when you build youre rig youreself it's so easy to up-grade what you have in almost all cases which saves you even more $$$$$.....Good luck!

DO NOT BUY FROM THOSE PEOPLE (DELL, HP, COMPAQ) etc.. THey are a pain in the ass when it comes to upgrading, and a pain in the ass for RMAs, problem solving etc. Build you own!

Yeah.

I bought a vaio.

Did a case transplant, and since then have upgraded the mobo and graphics.

All further upgrades are going to be a breeze now.

My family purchased 3 emachines and they all deteriorated rapidly. They have horrible support for their products and they are of poor quality IMO.
