Upgrade advice guys....please!!!

First of all can I just say that its good to be back!!! I've been working abroad (Italy) and haven't had much internet access for the last six months!

Now I've come home and decided that my much loved and much abused 9700pro (bought on the day of release!!) has just about outlived its usefulness so its time for a small upgrade, at this point I'm ony upgrading my graphics card because I'm a bit short on cash at the moment....

I'm currently running a P4 2.4b (at stock) but I'm planning an upgrade in about 6 months time to an x2 4400 and a new PCI-E graphics card but for the moment I want to stick with AGP.

My question is what card is going to give me the bext bang for bucks for the next 6 months or so, I have a max budget of between £100 and £150 and need something that will cope nicely with gaming at 1280*1024 (native res of my TFT) ability of do AA and AF at that res would be nice but smoothness without AA/AF is just as important.

What do you guys recommend???

TIA,

Vamp

Thanks for that hadn't really looked at the x700, 6600GT is on my shortlist, also looked at the X800GT/GTO.

Any more suggestions?

Im a fellow agp user and ive only just noticed how limited for choice we are now. Also that 6600GT I posted only has 128mb ram bleh. I think your best bet would be to save a few pennies and go for that first card I posted. It's an All in Wonder model with TV and radio tuner too so at least you can use it for other things. On the plus side when you do come to make the PCI-E switch you can build a cheap SFF unit around the All in Wonder card and have a pretty neat multimedia system.

Do Not Buy The 6600gt! It Is Useless, the 6200 is good "budget" card. I got it and it can play nicely all games that came out lately on high/medium.

Specs

AMD 64 3000
OCZ 512 X 2
DFI Lanparty UT NF4-Ultra-D
ASUS 6200 Gamers Edition PCI-EX

I would never let anybody in my computer shop order a 6600gt because they are useless!!!

Keep in mind, DIRECT X 10 SOON, Windows Vista Soon, etc etc... Upgrading probably out of question but a crack load of stuff coming out in 2k6.

What the point of wasting then 160 or so $$ when u gonna upgrade soon??

Respectfully, I would beg greatly to differ with your opinion - the 6600GT is an excellent card (to replace a 9700 card) that should handily play any current game with 2.4Ghz of processor juice backing it up at 1280x1024 resolution - I really think the 6200 would have a difficult time with that - and within budget.

Check this thread...

I checked a little bit around in shops, and I think the best value would come from one of these two cards:

http://www.komplett.co.uk/k/ki.asp?sku=308795&cks=PRL

http://www.komplett.co.uk/k/ki.asp?sku=307919&cks=PRL

The 6600GT is slightly better. I wouldn't buy anything stronger, as both of these cards are strong enough to last 6 months easily and are going to be a good addition to your system. Anything stronger won't perform as expected due to RAM and CPU bottlenecks, so I consider it a waste of money, especially when looking for a <1 year solution.
