UDP is generally all the needs to be open for games..

But i've never had luck with linksys.... dlink imo is probably the cheapest best solution..

Those sound like the right ports.... odd.....

Have you tried setting that box up in the DMZ?

DMZ defeats the whole purpose of having a router..... disabling the firewall and everything it stands for and allowing any person in basically!

Having a router is to wirelessly use the internet from another PC in your home, the firewall is just a secondary feature for most.

..... A wireless hub would be the way to go then no?

Routers: Allows you to connect multiple networked devices together.... while providing protection against hackers.... and allowing more then one machine to connect to the net at the same time.

I've never had a wireless router... but i think if someone paid for the router, they may as well at least use what it's made for....

Port forwarding has different interfaces on different routers... name and model of router and we can try and see what we can offer for port forwarding help!

DMZ is put onto routers for just this type of situation, however. There are some applications (VPN, gamehosting, etc) that don't work well with a lot of routers. Linksys in a lot of these situations has a rough time with it because of the difference between straight up port forwarding (which means that all traffic to that port is automatically routed to a particular machine) and port triggering (which means that a machine behind the router needs to trigger a port open from the inside before traffic gets routed).

Setting up port forwarding for specific ports is the same as opening up those ports on a software firewall that is running outside a hardware firewall.

One reason i have a dislike for linksys is that fact that i've even had trouble with DMZ to get the damn thing working.... Linksys = complete crap in every possible way in my opinion.. terrible firewalls and total load of bs gui for port forwarding and general navigation of setting up the router..

Dlink is probably my best choice for a cheap solution (although if you going wired... just pick up a xincom 402.... best damn cheap router you can get)

My dlink router when port forwarding... i can run probes and scanns on the ports i've forwarded with true stealth.. no responces at all working (and it's not getting to the machine that it's forwarded to)...

However, linksys doesn't do this.... frankly, when i've actually finally successfully obtained true stealth.. the second i got a port forwarded.. it would fail....

My xincom router however, can be set to adjust it's stealth and check certian ports that are forwarded, if they are legit. Very slick as i've had my UT2004 server pounded by some probe that got quite intrusive... router auto banned the ip for a short period of time and when it attempted to intrude.... it put it on it's block list. I've got 7777 dedicated UT2004 only...
