Help. Booted Computer > Black Screen

I was building a computer for my brother, when I finished building it I booted it and nothing showed up. Just a black screen. I took out the video card and used the intergrated video, still black screen. I put a MS-DOS boot floppy and still nothing happened. I disconnected everything and assembled again. Still black screen. The system consists of:

ASUS P5GD1-VM Motherboard
Intel P4 2.8 GHz LGA 775
GeIL Value 512MB 184-Pin DDR SDRAM DDR 400 (PC 3200) Unbuffered System Memory
Antec NeoHE 430 ATX12V 430W Power Supply
ARCTIC COOLING Freezer 7 Pro CPU Cooler
ASUS EN6600/TD/256 Geforce 6600 256MB DDR PCI Express x16 Video Card
Seagate Barracuda 7200.7 ST3120026A 120GB 7200 RPM IDE Ultra ATA100 Hard Drive
LITE-ON Black IDE Combo Drive
SAMSUNG Black 1.44MB 3.5" Internal Floppy Drive.

Please, help. I even tried to reset the Power Supply by disconnecting the power cord and holding the power switch for 10 secs. I think the motherboard is messed up, but before returning it I wanted to check here before. Thanks in advance, all help is greatly appreciated.

Are you getting any beeps, if so, how many? Does that board have the error voice, if so, attach some speakers and see what error it is giving you. Also, does the system turn on at all (hardrive spinning, mobo powering on, etc.), or is it completely dead (no action at all)?

No beeps. All fans on, CPU fan on, Mobo LED on, HD spinning.

sounds like a dead board. If you get no beeps then its most likely the board. Have you tried to power up without the cpu inserted - just to see if anything different happens.

I was going to suggest chucking an old PCI card in - in the days when PCI was king, you kept an old ISA card for crosschecking, now with AGP or PCI-E, any builder should have a spare "known good" PCI graphics as a tester.

Well, I do have a good PCI graphics card, that didn't work either, the onboard didn't work, and the PCI-E didn't work either. Any recommendations on a new Mobo? Has to be LGA 775 with DDR 400. (no DDR2)

My current machine, a Medion, has a miserably supported OEM version of an MSI Motherboard, Intel 915 chipset and DDR400...

http://www.msicomputer.com/product/p...Neo-F&class=mb - only two RAM slots, mine has 4

http://www.msicomputer.com/product/p...mbo-F&class=mb Two DDR and two DDR2 slots, ideal for upgrade

It seems that Intel 915 chipsets can often be found in DDR or DDR/DDR2 boards - anything later probably won't be.
