Computer Problems

Ok, i just recently got a new processor for my computer. Its an Intel Celeron D 345 3.06GHz / 256K Cache / 533 FSB / Socket 478

Well after I install the cpu and turn the computer back on, it powers up but nothing else. My screen stays blank and my dvd drive light/power light stays on.

Does anyone know how to fix this problem?

If i put the existing cpu back into the computer everything works fine.

Sorry if posted in the wrong section

This is the correct section.

First off a few questions.

1. Brand and model of motherboard.

2. Have you tried resetting your cmos?

3. Does your MB have a bios update to support this processor?

what chipset is the MoBo you have? if it's an 845, any Celeron D will NOT work. if it's a 661 chipset MoBo, it will work only after a bios flash to the newest bios version. an 856/875 chipset MoBo will work for sure. but from what you're describing, you don't have an 865/875 chipset MoBo.

oh, and welcome to DH

1. Its a Shuttle Av49V ( motherboard chipset is VIA VT8754 Apollo P4X400)

2. Yes, thats the first thing I tried.

3. Where would I find a bios update? (Bios type is an Award 05/27/03 is the date it gives me)

If that is the latest bios for your board then I doubt your MB supports the processor.

though the board is a bit dated like Necrosis mentioned, try finding an updated bios for it. go to via's website and look up that chipset you have. once you have the chipset, see if they have newer bios. and look over all the other bios revisions (from newest to oldest because the Celeron D is a rather new processor in the Celeron line) just to see if any of them did end up supporting the Celeron D processors. if you don't find anything referring to supporting the Celeron D processor, then it probably won't. but at least you'll get cool new features and what not .

but may i ask, what is the current processor you have in your machine?

hmm....give it a shot still. but now i'm starting to doubt your MoBo will support that processor. it might support upto a 3.06 P4 533FSB 512kb L2 cache instead. but still, see if a bios flash will fix that problem.
