New mouse?
I have a microsoft intelli optical, i think its 125Mhz, polling rate 100/200, not sure lol, im thinking of buying a new mouse, g5, mx 518, should i? What benefits would i get, i mean cant i just turn up the sensitivity on my current mouse and get the same effect as 1600 dpi?!
I play fps alot, mohaa sniper, and i have css, but not got into it yet, so would one of those newer 'gaming' mice aid me, or is it just more fools gold? |

If you play many FPS games, do yourself a favor and buy a G5.
Advantages could be: Better handling. (much better mouse design and sliding) Better accurancy. (WAY better than your current mouse) You can change the DPI, hence the speed, on-the-fly. Thus you can change the mouse speed in-game, depending on what you are currently doing at the time. You can adjust the weight of the mouse. (That's somewhat silly) I see no disadvantage, except the 'learning' period that your hand will need to adjust. |

If you turn the sensitivity up on your mouse, it skips pixels.
For windows sense outside of games: minimum = 1 pixel of movement per 2 mouse inputs half-way = 1 pixel of movement per mouse input maximum = 2 pixels of movement per mouse input The only way to get around this inability for precision at low speeds is by using acceleration, which many gamers tend not to favour. Your choice, I really prefer the feel of nice mice, but your best bet is probably to get a chance to try it out yourself and see if it's worth it, if you go to a large store, some salesman should be happy to oblige you and let you try one out.

I went from a IME1.0a to a 1600dpi Diamondback (with a FUNC pad ) and I would never consider going back to a non-gaming mouse. You can turn the sensitivity down and make fast wide movents with lots of precision.Logitech and Razer make the gaming mouses worth buying (IME3 is great, but it's slightly old and technology has passed it by).

yeah, when gaming you will notice a huge difference bt/wn a 'regular' optical mouse and a gaming mouse. I stepped up from a microsoft intellimouse to a logitech mx700 and saw a differene (neither gaming grade) and then I went from the mx700 to a mx518 and will never go back... it's all gaming grademice for me from now on.

Yes, i bought the mx518 and im very happy. When i tracked from point a to b with the intelli, it would take 5 movements, with the 518 its more than doubled, therefore crosshair precision has increased, needless to say im a happy bunny.

Well I am in the same place, G5 or MX518. So which is best and is there a noticable difference? The MX518 is a $20.00 canadian cheaper. Also are these things bright? I ask as the gaming mouse will sit off to the side often and I will use my cheap cordless for other stuff.
![]() edit: Just noticed the G5 is on sale for $5.00 more. The G7 is $35.00 more. Last edited by ronnn; Feb 19, 2006 at 06:29 PM. |

I say G5 over the MX518. Once you update the firmware just about nothing can touch it. If you want the cordless feel pick up a Mouse Bungee or one of those mouse weights.

The G5 looks like a really nice mouse, but since it's only got one side button, that's a big minus for me. That 2nd button comes in really handy in gaming, so my vote goes to the MX518

I'm happy with my mx1000 laser mouse, but the G5 is very nice as well....i still think the mx1000 is much better for those like me with big hands from an ergonomics standpoint

Was ready to pull the plug for the G5, but now am thinking about those extra buttons - that I may or may not ever use.

The extra buttons come in handy for gaming as I can assign frequently used actions to them. Plus when browsing the net, it's pretty cool to go forward or backward on the fly. I just don't see the sense in having one back button, but no forward button.

Ok, I got the G5 - as a good price happened. Hope I don't get buyer's remorse. Thanks for the responses.
