Gigabyte I-ram drive
some of you may have heard of this already. some of you may have already played around with this already. but for those of you who do not know anything about it, here's the deal. the gigabyte i-ram is basically a pci device that can have upto 4Gb of memory installed on it. it acts as a hard drive and interfaces with the motherboard through a SATA controller. you can place these in RAID 0 mode to have a total of 8Gb of data storage, but then you're talking big bucks. power is channelled (sp?) through the pci bus, and if it is disconnected from the pci bus (for system maintenance or whatever the reason may be), it has a battery on the card that can last upto 24hrs. according to my sources within the company i work for. and last but not least, below is a link to a video made by one of the product engineering guys at the company i work for, so you guys can see this little puppy in action

Windows installed and running on ram ! sure it is fast but not very reliable ...
but hey, if you are fortunate enough to buy it with 4 1gig stick then go ! Im curious to see how it would perform for gaming, take a ressource hog game like BF2 and install it directly on the i-ram ....humm should fly !

its only 4GB max though. Won't be able to likely install BF2 as well as the OS on it. OS and pagefile that is about it. |

see guys. that's why you would have to have two of those puppies, and a total of 8Gb of RAM. Then you'd be able to stripe them
. You'd have a total of 8Gb of HDD capacity . Now, i wonder if you can put those in quad RAID 0 (what's that called again???). then you'd have a total of one 16Gb HDD. You'd be able to install windows, BF2, and maybe one other smaller game.only down fall after all that, is that you'd be out close to $1,000 (USD) .

Yeah, the HyperDrive costs more, but you would have to get 4 I-Rams to get the same amount of memory available and then it kinda evens out.
Either way, it's not cheap, but then leading edge technology never is.
