Help! May be RAM related?
First off, general specs.
1GB RAM 200GB HD 2GHz P4 Windows XP Pro Second, I recently upgraded my RAM (couple days ago). I think these problems may be related to this. I also upgraded my HD a couple weeks ago but the problems weren't there until the RAM. Now, the problems. I play a lot of games and over the past two days games would randomly crash my PC when I exit them. Not randomly crash during the game, randomly crash when EXITING the game. I would get a blue screen of death giving some error that I didn't bother to copy down or anything. It kept doing this and I got tired of it so I reinstalled Windows XP. Actually, this only happened 3 or 4 times but that is enough for me to do a reinstall . During the install of XP my PC crashed again! Blue screen of death mentioning something about memory and how it dumped the virtual memory. Restarted computer and it installed windows fine. Now I have my fresh reinstall of XP up and running and it seems to work fine. Well then my computer just shut off and restarted. No error, no stall, no nothing! I was doing something on it (can't remember what) and it just turned off and restarted. Hmm. Did it again today. Then it did it once again! I remember exactly what I was doing this time - intalling Doom 3 (from a .iso file on the hd) and I was opening a folder in explorer. I can't remember exactly, but I think it might have turned off right when I opened the folder. Not 100% sure though. Don't know if that really matters anyways. So, to recap. Blue screen of death when exiting games, reinstalled XP, got a blue screen while installing, tried again and it worked, now PC is turning off and restarting randomly. Oh yeah, I forgot something. The Microsoft send error report comes up everytime it restarts after the random turning off with the "Windows has recovered from a serious error" crap. So, is this the RAM's fault like I think it is? And sorry for spelling errors. My spellchecker extension doesn't like to work with Firefox 1.5. |

I guess firstly have you been into your bios to make sure it's detected the correct timings when you replaced the Ram? Sometimes you have to access the bios for this to happen.
Secondly do you run any sort of overclock? |

Don't overclock and bios is picking RAM up fine.

I just remembered all the times my PC just turned off.
Once when I was using windows update and it was installing something Once when I was copying files from storage HD onto this HD. Once when I was installing SWAT 4 (.iso on the HD) Once when I was installing Doom 3 (.iso on the HD) All seem to happen when something is getting installed. Related or coincidence? |

Sounds like it may be power supply related to me. It would really help if you posted your PC specs so we know what you are running.

I found out there is a memory tester
http://oca.microsoft.com/en/windiag.asp I ran it on both sticks and one of them is fine (passes every test) and the other one fails on every single test except Stride6. Guess I will be getting this RAM replaced. |
