why would you want to but it? from most reports it is not much faster than the the dual core 4800 or the fx 57 for that matter- depending on what you are doing with it of course as to wich of those proc you would compare it to.

The only reason why you would want the FX-60 is to get a dual-core processor which has an unlockable multiplier. Otherwise...

Quote:
Granted, the performance advantage over the X2 4800+ is generally in the 5% - 9% range, so it's up to you to decide whether or not the advantage is worth it. Then there's the issue of AMD's upcoming Socket-AM2; due out in another few months, you obviously won't be able to use any Socket-939 processors in the new motherboards and there will be no upgrade path beyond the FX-60 for current 939 owners. So, our recommendation would be to stay away from the FX-60 unless you absolutely have to build the world's fastest system today.

If you want that new hardware smell. Can't go wrong with one of those new 150 GB Raptors though Well you can go wrong, if you're seeking for large (200 GB+ large) storage space and decent speeds. In my opinion, the Raptor 150 GB is fantastic for its performance.

does everyhring just fine doesnt it.
while we all want the latest/greatest most of the time it is anywhere near being cost effective. the top of the line cpus from both companies always have a ridiculous premium attached to them- that usaully involves only a small perf gain.
i usually go with the 3rd/4th tier proc as this is usually were you get the most bang for your $$. then oc.

you wanna blow a stack of cash, look into multi-CPU systems. The newest Xeons are hyperthreaded [2 chips, 2 threads each], 800MHz FSB, and 2MB cache.

The core is the Irindale, and they top out at 3.4 GHz, or you can get a set of 3.6GHz Noconas, but they only have 1MB cache.

Slap those bitches [i prefer irwindale's, as you can EASILY make up 200 MHz, hell, my 3.0's do 3.4 on air in a mid tower with stock fans] into a nice mainboard [they make em with SLi now, if you got $4-500 for a mobo] with some top notch RAM, and you're gunna eat that FX-60 for lunch

PRICING:
3.4GHz Irwindale: $500 each
Iwill DN800 SLI ATX server board [the shit, incarnate] - $400

Runs DDR2 RAM [8 gigs tops]
SLI Capable
3x PCI slots
Onboard RAID/SATA
