Stupid Internet Explorer
Is there a way to uninstall and reinstall Internet Explorer 6? I'm running WinXP Pro SP1. The reason I want to is because for some reason IE started performing like crap. Some webpages layouts are wrong, and I'm getting way too many broken images. Here is an example of what I am talking about.

No need to re-install...
...those images just aren't loading. Those are called "placeholders" and they appear where images should be if they don't load. (Thus the red "x" in 'em.
) Are you having a connection problem lately or connecting thru a LAN perhaps?

Well, I don't think I'm having a connection problem. I have RoadRunner, and I have my computer and my brother's connected through a hub. Here is what that same page looks like on his computer.

When I check the properties, the url address is res://C:\WINXP\System32\shdoclc.dll/navcancl.htm#http://ads.ad-flow.com/?DC=DriverHea...&TARGET=_blank Last edited by Gremmie; Jan 19, 2003 at 03:45 AM. |

I've gotten screens like that, for me the cause was configuring Norton Securities too tight. Even on the medium settings some pic's would be disabled.. Ad blockers can also be the cause. Also have you updated Macromedia's shockwave and flash player's lately? New versions were released last month.

Have you tried the obvious like emptying you IE 6 cache and reloading the site?

I installed the shockwave and flash players and it didn't fix anything. Also, I don't have any ad blockers or norton securities. I tried changing the security level in IE to low, and that didn't help either.

Try what Chaos suggested and empty your cookies, temp files and history.. If that doesn't work you can try putting that site into
trusted sites from the ie security tab...I had to do that for one of my daughters sites so it would display properly..She can't live without visiting hers petz site

I tried what Chaos said, and that didn't help. I also tried doing the trusted sites thing, and that didn't help either. I think i'm going to reinstall WinXP. It's been a long time since I've done that anyway.

well you can't uninstall IE without uninstalling windows becouse the two products are one. It seems ti me you secrity setting are two hight try disabling your firewall and turn the IE security level down and try that page again. Thats happens to me sometimes and There are also times sites won't when i turn thing off/down they work again. If all else fails download and use netscape. IE and netscape are the best by far..... so if you give up give netscape a try.........

I installed a fresh copy of WinXP and all problems are solved. I don't know what exactly was wrong, but it wasn't just IE. I tried Netscape and Opera, and they were both screwed up also. I needed a fresh install anyway, and everything is running better now.

Navigate your way to C:\WINDOWS\system32\DRIVERS\etc and take a look at your HOSTS file. Make sure all it says is 127.0.0.1 localhost and nothing else.

I don't like Netscape. It doesn't show some of my favorite websites right.
