Not seeing both cores of my new Athlon X2 4200+
First Hi to all, and hope someone can help me.
I have recently built myself a nice AMD Athlon X2 4200+ system but I can't see both cores active in the task manager. I have installed the driver off the AMD site and it lists in the device manager as the right driver (dated 10/26/2004 version 1.2.2.0) I have already tried a clean install and I did see both cores functioning for a while, however they vanished again after a reboot. Anyone can please point me in the right direction would be great. Thanks. Last edited by Morphware; Jan 14, 2006 at 09:25 AM. Reason: addition of methods to find solution |

Crazy thing just happened, I went into the bios changed a memory setting and then booted back to xp and suddenly I had two cores. Restarted again and now I have only one again. It must be an outstanding issue with the bios, I hope MSI fix it soon because its got me kinda pissed at the moment.
Anyone else suffering from a similar problem? Does anyone know of a fix for it?

In "Hardware", is the Computer defined as an "ACPI Multiprocessor PC" ?
If you installed Windows before updating the BIOS, it may not have identified it correctly. If your Windows install CD is not SP2, I'd suggest slipstreaming it before any re-install attempt. |

Yes it is, I have found that by going into the bios whenever I reboot, saving and exiting it restarts with both cores, if I don't I only have access to one, must be a bios fault, am eagerly awaiting MSI to release a fix for it.
