Wireless router..

Do any of you guys or gals have any suggestions on a good router/firewall with wireless capabilitys? My current one a Netgear WGR614 is killing me atm, i lose internet connection all the time and have to unplug it and plug it back in all the time to get my internet connection back. This is really getting on my nerves and I'm pretty damn close to smashing it with a hammer right now. I have tried every available firmware, but no go....this is where you guys come into the picture, give me some suggestions on what to get instead of this crappy netgear...

Asmoday, before you go and blame your router, go into the router status page and check to see what the lease time on your IP address is. I have seen in a lot of situations that what you describe is the result of an extremely short lease on an IP address.

The other option may be that your modem is dropping offline. I'm assuming you run cable. You may want to check into some connection monitoring tools that can check the status of your connection from outside your home network. One that I know of is at: http://www.broadbandreports.com/schedule. You need to set up your router to respond to pings to run that, just to let you know.

It isn't the modem dropping offline of that i am sure.
But about the lease that can actually be the problem, how short is too short when it comes to leases here, and can I change that time if want to?
I'm not too experienced when it comes to networking as you probably can tell.. :P

Usually a DHCP lease should be in the neighborhood of 3 to 5 days. Too short would be anything under 24 hours.

You can't change the lease time, but if you contact your ISP they can usually escalate to their network administrators for them to take a look at it.

I've seen DHCP leases in excess of 15 days recently to solve the issues of people that are having lots of dropoff and short leases.

Ok, thanks for the advice I will contact my ISP before I run out and buy a new router.

I dunno, it might use it's super powers to destroy the lead shortly after it was placed around it
