RAM Question

ok... so i want 1gig of system ram. I already have 512mb of ram installed in my box. My question is, would i be able to just get another 512mb of ram and put it in the other slot so it equals 1gb? or does it not work like that. Would i need to buy like a whole new 1gb of ram or the ram that says 2x 512?

do you want to run dual channel?

if you don't, then just adding 512 should be fine to give you 1g overall, although some mobo's don't like mixing mem speeds.

i would recommend you get all new memory. reason being it's better to get all matching memory so you have the least possibility of running into memory errors. if you plan on purchasing just another 512Mb stick of RAM, i'd say get it from the same manufacturer as your current memory maker and make sure that all the specs are the same just to keep memory issues to a minimum
