Need sound solution, for cheap
Just built a new setup out of an ASrock DUAL939 board, and it's working pretty well.
However, the onboard sound is a little annoying, it has decent quality, but the mic input is very quiet and I things that are coming through on my headphones, are playing straight into my mic. This makes VoIP a problem when, say, I'm in a helicopter in BF2. Wondering what I should buy, I've got about 40$ and I'm looking at either a Soundblaster Live! or a Turtlebeach Catalina 7.1 I want EAX 2.0, and the Catalina looks better as of now. Most of all, I want my mic back to normal. For the record, I've used the same mic with two other boards with which it worked fine, and I've even tried a different microphone on the board. Quite literally, if I don't boost my mic in advanced options, the only way I can tell it is working in sound recorder is by hitting it, or whistling RIGHT next to it, and it still doesn't pick much up. Any help is appreciated. |

The X-Fi music one was a card I had already considered for the future.
The card I want now is short term, I'm probably going to pick it up tonight. |

I bought a rather cheap generic card, but the microphone is clear, and it's still basically better than my onboard.
Unfortunately, the only other soundcard that was desirable was in the 100$+ price range. Worked out fine. |
