CDRW Fails to Eject on Occasion

Just what would be causing a CDRW to fail to eject on occasion? In the most recent (and often the most common) occurence, I was reinstalling Half Life 2 from my 5 CD version. When the install process ended with Disk #4 and prompted for Disk #5, the #4 would not eject.

I shutdown the computer, retrieved the #4 CD and started the install again. This time the same thing happened but with #3 CD prompting for #4.

This time, rather than shutdown, I simply installed the #4 CD into my DVD/RW drive and the installation proceeded without any further problems.

As for the CDRW drive, not even opening My Computer, right-clicking on the drive and selecting Eject would work. Only a reboot would restore the CDRW to operational....although I could open the contents and view them via Windows Explorer.

could be due to the installer treats its packages which have been separated into parts on multiple CDs,
the installation routine might treat system with multiple drives slightly wrongly. some of the installer can use all of the drives in series, but some won't do it and may expect to have the media in a certain drive only. it would be good if these multiple CDs can be combined into a full DVD.

if you ever installed Linux using multiple CDs instend of a full DVD you would see somethings similar to this. SUSE Linux installer can use all of the drives that exist in the system, installation routine would go into every CDs/drives in series when many other Linuxes won't do thing like this.

Thanks!

Actually, I did use the Steam Game Backup appy to back up HL-2 for future into a file that will fit on one DVD. Hopefully, I won't be needing it anytime too soon.
