StartUp Problem?!!
Hi guys,
Any help much appreciated PROBLEM: On StartUp as the WinXP HomeEdition logo appears on screen and the progress bar begins moving the bar will, on some occasions, freeze for approximately 60-90seconds!! It then carries on loading and continues to the welcome screen. Anyone any ideas why it does this? It doesnt do it every time although the amount of times it does are getting more frequent ![]() I have recently installed a new 80GB HDD, could this installation be the possible problem?

have you ran a disk defragmenter (also on the MTF)? bad HD sector maybe.
USB hub faulty, stalling on boot up? do you get lockouts within windows? any other things giving problems? does it do this in safemode? |

CLock your processor slower. Sounds unstable to me.

I doubt its anything to do with his CPU as he is running stock speeds. Boot up in safe mode and see if you still get the stall. if you dont its a driver problem. if you still are getting it, disconnect anything like scanners, printers etc, anything unneccesary. if you cant resolve it I would try a low level disk format on your startup drive.
have you checked your cabling etc.? |

StartUp
Soz guys.. everything stated in the above posts check out
im not 'oc'ed, all cables are inorder, i defrag about once ever two weeks, windows operates perfectly normal One other thing i have noticed though is... ...just as with shutdown you hear the HDD power down and then off, well on startup i can hear the same sound sometimes as if the HDD begins to spin then stops It then just boots as stated above

Maybe a flakey drive.....Try it in another computer as slave? I dunno. Sounds like the drive if it is infact making weird noises.

oh dear
![]() but its kinda strange that its only happening at exactly the same time on startup and not during normal windows use. normally if a drive was failing you would get lost data etc. I would definately do a low level disc format and run it through diskeeper see if its a bad sector. |

Try assigning an IP-Adress and not assign it dynamically.
Perhaps its searching for any part of an network. On win98 it takes half a minute longer with dynamical IPs. |
