960bf or 940B
Hi Im new
.Sorry for the long post but I need to know.I recently purchased a SamSung 960BF from futureshop. I came home and set it up, everything looked fine until I started to game. There was a horrible ghosting effect playing games. I called up SamSung and they told me it shouldnt be doing that. So later in the day I returned it and got another one. The new one I got is alot better it doesnt ghost as much butI still see it (Playing CS 1.6). Now Ive read reviews that the 940B doesnt ghost at all, so I was wondering why the 960BF would, its the exact same thing except that the 960BF has a 4 ms instead of the 940B's 8 ms. So should the 960BF be ghosting at all or did I get stuck with another defective monitor? Im planning on going out tonight for another exchange. I would return the 960BF and get a 940B but Im afraid that where I would buy a 940B they wouldnt take it back and I got a 60$ discount on the 960BF. Is it just bad luck or is it a bad monitor. Thanks Abius][ |

There are a number of possibilities.
Could be a driver issue (no really) so you might want to reinstall your ATI or nVidia drivers. Does the monitor itself have a driver? (many do) Maybe THAT needs to be installed properly. I'm not too up on how LCDs work, but maybe increase the refresh rate? Also, ghosting gets worse as you stray away from the native resolution. Find its native resolution and stick to it. If it is a widescreen LCD, you need to make sure your game supports it (many games have some inf or dat file modifications that allow it to change to non-standard resolutions) I, in no way, claim to be an expert on this, but those are all of the things I'd look into first. Still, if its better now, it may just be another defective monitor. I should warn you though that I've only seen 2 LCDs that didnt ghost at ALL(most ghost very minorly) and that was the 21" Apple Cinema Display, and the 21" Dell display (2005FPS I think?) which are actually both the same monitor with different bezels.

Ive installed the driver for the screen from the CD included. Im running @ native resolution (1280X1024 @ 75Hz) but I cant/dont know how to run games @ 75 Hz. And its not minor ghosting that I see its quite notiable. Thanks for the reply.

I have the same problem with my Samsung 930BF, as already mentioned in this post. The reason is the so called RTA (responce time accelerator) samsungs version of overdrive. You can turn it off via the OSD. The problem is, it is by default ON, so every time you turn the monitor on, RTA will be on too.
I sent an official complaint to Samsung with no responce. I guess we are stuck with ghosting, or manouvering through OSD. Regards, Partizan

MENU Button -> Setup -> RTA -> On / Off
At least on my 930BF is it so. Perhaps your OSD Menu is a bit different. Regards, Partizan

Ya the 960B is different theres no OSD well there is but its not used with the button on the screen because there is none. Theres only the power button on the screen. Theres software that you install and use your mouse around the same options, but no RTA

Damn. All BF monitors have RTA. There has to be the way to disable it. You will probably have to wait on the newest version of Magic Tune software. The only difference between a BF and a B monitor is the RTA.

I have the exact problem with my 960bf, and have exchanged it once at future shop, and i'm still having this bad ghosting problem. Plus there's no onscreen OSD, and magictune seems to not have the capabilities of turning off the RTA to see if that changes the severe ghosting. Any suggestions?

If you can, return it. If not, stick to it and don't ever buy Samsung LCDs again...
I know I wont. Regards, Partizan
