my experience is limited to Intel chipset motherboard's... but anyway, you have to give me more info on what you want to do with this drive...
you want to use the new drive as your main hard drive (meaning you want to install Windows onto this drive and use it as boot drive) or as a secondary drive ?? if you want to use it as the new boot drive -- you may need to provide a SATA driver during the new Windows installation. this requires the F6 installation method. if you want to use it as a secondary drive and you already have the Windows XP SP2 on the old drive -- then set your BIOS (if your BIOS setup program provides this option) to boot the new drive after the old drive. and then after you are in Windows run this command in the Run box... diskmgmt.msc, Do you see the new drive listed on the the Disk Management snap-in as "Disk 1"? if so, then you should be okay and i'll continue on this... ok, here is the next step... on the Action menu of Disk Management click Rescan Disks, if the Disk Management detects the new hard drive -- R-click on the drive, then choose Initialize Disk. if the Disk Management does not detect the new disk after you click Rescan Disks -- reboot your computer. after you back in Windows open the Disk Management snap-in, and then do the Initialize Disk... In bios i enable promise controller and it detects the WD drive, and then when i reboot it says IDE Bus Master Enabled. The drive is showing under boot devices - Hard drive, but when i change the order of the HD's ( the system to #2 and new sata 2 to number 1) then the system drive is no longer in the boot priority, just the cdrom and new sata drive.

i need to see your BIOS setup program...
the problem is only in and about the system BIOS settings i just don't have any experience on this motherboard. but i don't Think you need to install any extra driver if you only add one SATA drive to the system. someone who has this motherboard should be able to clear this up. anyway, set the BIOS to boot the old drive first. then boot into Windows and have a look at the Disk Management snap-in... |

there isnt much i can do in the bios with this drive. here is a picture of the array it wants me to set up when i put it in raid mode, but that didnt help either, it is still not showing up in disk managment.
![]() I think i might have to pay to get this thing installed its giving me a major headache. How much you think it would cost to pay someone to do it?

i don't know man. don't think you have to pay for this.
will locate your motherboard manual as soon as i can , i think it's most likely to be in the Raid BIOS settings somewhare. |

How do you connect the two hard drives and CD drives to the motherboard?
like this... ![]() this motherboard has plenty of storage options which is very good. i've not read the whole manual but the Raid BIOS sections, i expected to see some info about a single SATA drive or non-Raid SATA drive setup and the chipsets drivers but can't find anything about this. the BIOS setup does not provide the menu for the hard drives boot priority. so i think just set the Boot Device Priority to default or something likes 1st/2nd/3rd = HDD/CD/FLOPPY or FLOPPY/HDD/CD. if you don't connect any device to the Promise controller you can disable this controller in BIOS.
but it's okay and all up to you if you want to coonect your new drive there.
