WD 120Gb SE harddrive woes

My friend resently gave me a 120Hd WD SE HD (he had it in his system, never used it so he gave it to me). Anyway I install this thing & tried to put some files on but it took forever, less that 1Mb a min and when idle it freezes my system. So I said, OK, let me format this thing, before I got a chance to restart my computer the whole system goes off & on again. OK, booted back up, now during start up the BIOS says the drive failed. I restarted, the HD passes now, so I formated the drive (took about an hour). I figure now everything will work, but no, now both drives fail during start up (same drive but not SE). I took the drive out just to boot up & downloaded a special utility from WD's page. I put the drive back in everything booted OK, ran the test (which took an hour) & the utility finds nothing worng, now I'm pissed. So I took the drive out and RMA'ed it back to WD.

I'll update you guys when I get the drive back.

Your power supply is lacking in power, and yes, I know it's an enermax, but with your OC and your drives, your fans, you're REALLY taxing that "350W" PSU.

If both drives failed, it's not the WD. And just to let you know, formatting 120 gigs on ANY drive will take a loooong time. If it wasn't making constant "spin up" wooshing sounds, wasn't clicking on and off incessantly, and wasn't "grinding," the drive is most likely fine.

Adding that second drive seems like what brought your PSU to it's knees if BOTH drives then failed...I bet if you would have disconnected the other drive the JB would have worked just fine...

I say this, because I've experienced this on my Duron system with a 250W PSU, but it was with a 20GB maxtor + 30GB WD...the maxtor refused to let the system run properly...except when the WD was detatched.

Interesting, but I had the WD 120Gig + Maxtor 40Gig running fine together. I had the problems running the WD 120Gig + WD 120Gig SE together. Could the WD 120Gig SE take so much more power than the Maxtor 40Gig as to cause the problems?

Well, I got an e-mail from WD this morning saying that they will ship my replacement HD out in 5-7 buisness-days. I guess this means they found something worng with it, other-wise they would of said they were returning it, right?

After getting the new drive the problems didn't go-away. I tried lowering my CPU clockspeed back down to default and the harddrive works fine. It seems it is my PSU becasue I was also having problems overclocking my video card. Thanks, Reno.
