I don't have a great deal of money so when buying components I usually spent a lot of time deciding what to buy. I am building an AMD 64 X2 machine, I already bought the mobo (ASUS A8N32-SLI) and the case and power supply (will 480W do?). I have a bout $450 dollars to spend. The video card I will leave for last hoping prices will drop on the 7800 GTX's. I'm looking for quality, not quantity.
Should I buy: *Processor? *HD? *Memory? *New Power Supply? *Combination of above? *Other? Thanks for all the help. |

I purchased 2 x 1 GB of OCZ PC4000 RAM earlier this week.
Perhaps you should consider more RAM.

I would probaby purchase the hard drive after that, then your CPU, and video card, but pay close attention to hard drive prices for the next while. Right now there is a lot of movement in the hard drive industry with mergers (such as Seagates merger with Maxtor), and financial problems with companies that make specific hard drive components. People don't realize that while you can count the number of hard drive manufacturers on one hand there are only 1 or 2 manufacturers that make specific components that are use in those drives. So, while drive prices are stable right now that may all change soon. If you start to see prices for them creeping up, buy one asap.

Well thanks, I'm probably going for the RAM as advised, and the HD. Any one hear about the 150GB 10,000 RPM WD Raptor? Is it worth it?
