hard drive trouble

ok so i had two extra WD IDE harddrives laying around a 120gb and a 80gb so i decided to go ahead and put them in becuase i actually NEEDED the space, so after i installed them and such i start up my pc and it only detects one but in the bios it detects both (or atleast i think it did), it only detects the 80gb one so i went under diskmanagement and still the 120gb was no where to be found... any help?

Sounds like either a master/slave issue, or BIOS support.

Are you sure both drives are good?

Now don't laugh, I fitted a drive in a USB box (drive of unknown condition), and it didn't spin up - I'd checked it was MASTER, so I thought, but the jumper list on the to showed the positions from the underside, so the jumper was completely wrong... correctly set, it spun up and worked.

Could be a cable issue too. You might want to try a different cable.

OH...and I know this sounds 'n00bish', but are you sure you plugged in the power connector too? I know I've done that more than once

well heres a bit of an update, i switched the two drives from the 80gb being master to being a slave and the 120gb to master instead of slave. like i said before, it detects everything in the bios, and now it detects everything in windows but heres one problem, i couldnt get it to be formatted, it kept on saying "cannot format drive" after it sits there for a while making no progress at all =/ what now?
