Cd Burner Problems

As of last night, after finishing burning an ISO to a cd, the burner stopped recognizing cdrs... like literally will not know theres a cd in the drive. I have read a lot of things online in different forums talking about turning on (or off) the windows IMAPI service, uninstalling Nero, having less than 2 cd burning softwares installed.. checking cables, checking disks...
The thing is this burner is fairly new, i bought it for $60 dollars a month or two ago, and it worked perfectly fine before this...
Any ideas??

You might try a firmware upgrade, or cleaning the lense with a CD cleaner. Honestly there isn't too much you can do. Have you started using different media?

Try to RMA the drive..

-maybe check all the cables just be sure? - that probably is not the problem. I would do it anyway.

I have been using this same media since i got it, im going to try cleaning the lens, and i double checked the cables.. i'm running into problems with the firmware upgrade, because i can't find ANYWHERE what the actual model is (no where on the box, in driver info, anywhere in windows....) so i'm having a hell of a time.. I'd rather not RMA it that would take a loooong time and I want linux baaad. (I was in the middle of burning Mandriva 2006!! I'm dying trying to wait! lol)

Running into big problems with firmware: supposedly it's a Lite-on AND a memorex, yet the lite-on drivers dont work for it (say not supported model) and memorex doesn't provide drivers....

That sux.. So it is a Memorex made by Lite-on I suppose.

I have a Lite-On.. I wonder if you got a system info program if it would show more specific info and then maybe you could find a firmware?

Maybe it just does though.. that would suck, but it might be the case.

You might try running Belarc Advisor to see if that gives you a better description of which burner you've got.

Also, go into Device Manager, select this drive and REMOVE it. Shutdown the computer, turn it off, unplug it for a couple of minutes. Then, plug it back in, turn it on and see if Windows will redetect and install the drive. Sometimes that works.

Good luck!

Did you mess with the firmware? If you did and installed the wrong one- (sounds like you may have started to do that), that's not good.

Just guessing from afar....I'd say it's broken.

Don't feel too bad, though, I have a closet full of dead CD/DVD drives. It goes with the territory.

PangingJr is just really nicePangingJr is just really nicePangingJr is just really nicePangingJr is just really nice

tried the drive on other system yet?
if it's still not working then just RMA it (when you still can. the Linux can wait.) as other have recommended this before.
but if it worked fine on the other system, just back up your files and clean install Windows and try again.
