Got myself a big computer problem...

Ok so my goal was to purchase a new case for my computer and just simply swap all the parts to the new case.....It didnt quite turn out like this. The case I got is this one http://www.directron.com/ax01bld.html and I currently have a Gigabyte GA-7VRX motherboard. I hooked up all the hardware except the little case to motherboard connectors. I thought I had everything connected correctly, then when I plugged the power cord in the computer just fired up...Didnt even push the power button, then I realised the power button wasn't working and the reset switch wasn't either. The only thing working correctly was the Power and HD LED's. I then shut off the computer by the switch in the back of the power supply. Now to get things even more complicated my computer monitor never even starts up??? The monitor has the little green light on the bottom right hand corner and that continues to flash, even when the computer turns on (nothing shows up on screen). I've switched graphics cards to see if that was the case and it's the same thing...no picture and a computer that just turns on whenever power is connected to it. Anyone have any ideas whats going on???? Also thanks for reading this really long post.

Sounds like a bad power supply. If you have another one I would give it a try.

System Specs

Make sure you have the power leds hooked up right and if that don't work replace the new PSU with the old one you had.

Yeah.

Double check your HD light, power, reset switch, & such pin-outs against the manual just to be sure they're all hooked up right; after that I'm with the "try another PSU" crowd.

Hmmmm, that may actually be the problem, except I dont have an extra power supply stong enough for the system. The one I have right now is a 300W power supply which came out my old system. Why would it be the power if it always worked fine until now? Anyways if it is would this be a decent power supply http://www.bestbuy.com/detail.asp?e=...t=552&scat=553 ? I have a cd-rom drive, 2 hard drives, four fans plus one sytem fan blower, so do you think that would be enouh power? Also is it possible to tell if my motherboard is dead? How would I find out?

Something makes me wonder even more about my power supply. I have a thermaltake Volcanoe 7+ which has a fan speed control on it for the processor. Now I used to be able to just switch speeds whenever I wanted to by turning the little switch to either low, medium, or high speed. Now I have it hooked up but when I turn the switch the fan speed doesn't change? Also this little switch has to be connected to the power supply, which it is so that's making me wonder a little more.

On my GA 7 RXP and Antec case the white wires on the power switch and reset switch are the positives green and black on the negatives.
Just bought the same case as you for my new rig ..I'll power down and check what colors go to the positive & negatives on it. Mobos a Asus A7N8x dx though.

I didn't like the 350 smart power though.. With the extra fans and such I'd spend a couple dollars more and get the Antec 430 Truepower or any Truepower for that matter . Much stronger rails dedicated rather than switching.

Improperly connected motherboard connection. Comps do this when something is connected backwards, or not all the way on...won't boot up because USB lines are turned around, CPU HSF not connected properly to fan connector, power switch not connected properly to mobo, etc.

Only connect the power switch, and try it both ways, and see if it changes anything. I have a feeling your PSU is just fine for that system (ran more crap than that on a generic 300W).

Well I've tested the power supply at it's fine. Its either how the motherboard is seated or a bad motherboard. I've never removed the processor or overcloked it so i'm pretty sure thats not the problem. To DarkFoss, if you could let me know how your stuff is hooked up I'd greatly appreciate that. Thanks for trying to help everyone.

make sure your motherboard is not touching somewhere on the backing plate and causing a short this happens occasionly

I have solved the problem!!! Apparently I overlooked the obvious as it turns out I have three sticks of RAM, I removed 2 of them and coincidentally the one that I left in wasn't seated properly. I took it out then back in and it booted up and got me into the BIOS, then I just continued to add different hardware. Everything is now working. I'm very happy I got this resolved without having to take anything in or spend any money on it. I would like to thank everyone who tried helping me out with this problem, I really appreciated it.
