DH Review: Altec Lansing FX4021 Speakers

Read The Review Here

Unless in a noise critical workplace every PC needs a set of speakers and really the only decision to be made is whether the system needs 5.1 or 2.1 sound. Chances are many people will not have the space for a 5.1 system so this really makes the choice easy.

Altec Lansing have been making audio products since the 1920’s and have developed quite a reputation for producing great sounding hardware for the home, car and in recent years PCs. For everyone’s budget they have a product which suits and the same goes for specification. Let’s see what they offer for the 2.1 audio market.

Looking specifically at the main component pictures above, on the left is the subwoofer which contains Isobaric-configured dual 5.25" woofers. The idea behind this design is that it should produce sound which is comparable to subwoofers twice the size whilst maintaining a small footprint.
To be specific here, it's the area that's important, not the diameter, so dual 5.25" woofers are approximately equal to a single 7.42" woofer.

whats equally important is the quality rather than the size as many people will attest to once hearing the huge and wooly woofers that tend to come in the shape of logitech.

Just earlier today, I've plugged in a set of Logitech Z-10 speakers, no sub, and I'm quite impressed for the price, I'm not usually a fan of Logitech speakers.

Dual woofers actually have a whole set of pros and cons, but these are mostly in the design, and it doesn't matter a whole lot to the end user, as long as they sound good. My dual-woofer Klipsch setup works quite nicely, as should others.

Thats the thing with music, its all very subjective and no two set of ears will ever be the same. Guess thats why audiophiles still buy valve amps and vinyl.
