Lian Li V1010b Review @ DH

Read The Review Here

Lian-Li's reputation in the world of computer enthusiasts is legendary and their products are considered to be some of the best quality cases available. Today we will take a look at one of their larger ATX midi tower cases the V1010B. The V1010B is a very spacious midi tower case which can easily be mistaken for a full tower and it is loaded with features ... the end result is something quite special indeed.

It is a nice looking class, but I do not like how they made the mobo back to a regular ATX instead of the inverse ATX. You need extremely long power supply cables now.

Re: Lian Li V1010b Review @ DH

Am I late to the party? LOL.

OK, since this case is still available (but becoming rare), and I've bought two of them (in silver) I thought I'd mention a couple of things that were considered cons in the review.

Quote:
As good as the Lian-Li V1010B may be, there still were a few things we didn't like. First and above all else, we can understand that the motherboard sidebar is necessary for the extra cooling fans and the expansion card holders to be mounted but it will restrict any upgrade efforts while the motherboard tray is installed inside the case. We would like it to be easier to remove at the very least.

The sidebar isn't a problem at all. It's simply held in place by just 4 screws and is removable in less than a minute. No need to mess around removing the mobo tray or anything when changing a CPU cooler or installing a PCI / GFX card.

Also, the reviewer mounted the extra fan incorrectly. The 'lip' of the square metal part which screws to the fan is supposed to attach to the 'inside' of the metal bar. You don't see the lip at all. I hope that makes sense. I can't explain it any other way. Mounting how the reviewer mounted it won't actually hold it in place properly, it will rock and move around a lot. I made the mistake of doing it this way, which totally puzzled me and got me really pissed off, then I realized I'd done it wrong and laughed. It works well when properly attached.

Quote:
There is also the minor fault of the 5.25" bay covers not holding very well and they are easily removed even with slight pressure or bumps. Lian-Li should start using screws to secure their bay covers.
And this is one of the very few minor drawbacks I can see. They do come out easily, but not that easily. At least, not in my case. Also, I replaced the top bezel with a solid aluminum CDROM cover that flips down when the CD is ejected, plus installed a 3 x 5.25" bay cooler (I forget which model number, but it's the one made by Lian Li). Now there is only one standard bezel, so that reduces the problem a lot.

Anyway... I'm sorry for bumping such an ancient thread, but if anyone out there is considering buying the PC-V1010, don't let anything put you off, it's still an amazing case with a timeless, classy design that looks beautiful. It's an absolute pleasure to work with.

Why the hell did Lian Li discontinue this case? I don't get it. In my opinion it's one of the best looking Lian Li cases ever made.
