4870 X2 Ultra High End Shootout!

Read The Review Here

Sapphire 4870X2 Atomic L/C & Gainward Rampage 700

It comes as no surprise to us that there are also versions of the 4870X2 hitting the market with extreme cooling solutions in addition to enhanced speeds. Today we will run two of the most interesting through a selection of real world tests, including gaming at 2560x1600 and Blu-Ray playback to find out how good the 4870 X2 can get.

Good review.
How is noise?
The price tag is just stupid.

Nice review but out of my price range as Bluemak mentioned. I like the single slot cooler design of the Sapphire card

Re: 4870 X2 Ultra High End Shootout!

just curious but all the reviews I have seen of the Sapphire Atomic card the memory bandwidth shows 64 GB/sec yet a standard 4870 as well as the Gainward 4870X2 have a memory bandwidth of 121 GB/sec can someone explain why that is. Is it the reduced 2D memory clock speed that causes the lower result?

Great cards, but yeah to expensive. I would rather buy a normal model and find a better cooler for it, which can be bought for around 15-25£.

Re: 4870 X2 Ultra High End Shootout!

confused on one point.

You run tests on GRID at 2560 and 1920 but the same card today on hexus they state "the highest resolution wasn't run with Race Driver: GRID due to substantial slowdowns in the game, leading to inconsistent and unrepeatable results"

yet you are both using 8.12 drivers? wasn't this actually fixed a while ago?

You are correct, that particular bug was fixed about 2 or 3 drivers ago so I am not sure how Hexus are experiencing it. In addition to this their results for 1920x1200 are rather odd... a stock X2 beating the Atomic???

Seems the article over there could have done with a bit more work...

Either that or a GPUz bug. The performance is fine though so I wouldnt worry too much about it.

Both cards would not be noticable over intake/exhaust fans in most systems... very quiet indeed.
