Steelseries Ikari Laser Gaming Mouse Review @ DH

Read The Review Here
_____________________

SteelSeries have built a name for themselves over the years by producing some of the most popular gaming headsets and surfaces in the business. We have looked at a couple of their other accessories recently though, namely the 7G Keyboard and their World of Warcraft Mouse. Today we are going to take a look at another mouse from them, the SteelSeries Ikari Laser.

Sounds like a very promising mouse. It looks great too. I love the no-nonsense look. It would be better if they made their logo less prominent (eg in a shade of grey).

Very nice!

looks decent but i always say with mice go to the store try it so you don't regret it.
I wonder how long it will last under gaming conditions ??
Had a Microsoft mouse that lasted 5 years not kidding
+ i love mice with lots of bling/buttons but that's me

My favourite mouse as well now I couldn't believe how well it fits my hand, it is like a glove. When I move over to my MBP an have to use my MX Revolution now, it just feels wrong. This is odd considering I use to think it was very comfortable.

The "flex plastic" approach to the main buttons is quite common now, my Medion E81000 cordless has the same style of buttons.

I'd love to see the Medion X81000 (MD85888) Gaming mouse tested, at first sight, it ticks pretty much every box for a gaming mouse (and with a weight tray, it is most definitely a gaming mouse), with even some features I've not seen elsewhere (a lock-hold button for strain-free continuous fire).

I've been cordless for so long, I didn't fancy going back to corded.

Re: Steelseries Ikari Laser Gaming Mouse Review @ DH

I tried to setup a macro today and I can say I am not impressed. Trying to make one for Crysis for clock, and another for armor. But the Macro keys don't let you hold a key down while pressing another one. Well it shows it does in the software, however when actually executing it, it sure doesn't.

I'd love it with a few more buttons. That the button beneath the scroll could not be reprogrammed really killed it for me. Always on the lookout since I feel lucky already with how long my MX1000 has lasted.

That button is an integral part of the function of the mouse, I find it perfectly understandable that it isn't reprogrammable myself.

Re: Steelseries Ikari Laser Gaming Mouse Review @ DH

Nice review. I have this mouse and love it. I have yet to figure out how to create a macro( I want two- one where I can go to the prone position with a scoped wepon and fire, and the other is to help me tap the fire button more (arthritis sucks)kinda like a ouble tap)
good review

I'm sorry to bring this 'old' thread back to life, but I have a question.

I read in two reviews that the scroll button jams if you slightly press the wheel to the right. Did you have the same issue with your review sample?

This will probably become my next mouse, so I want to know everything about it.

Although I've never used the Steelseries mouse, I'm curious as to why someone would choose anything other than the Logitech G5 or G9. The comfort and performance is unmatched in my book.

They look ugly, lol.

No really, the G5 has the whole blue lightning thing going on, and the G9 just looks almost like a square-shaped little box. I have a logitech mouse: the mx518, and I love it, but I find it also pretty ugly (look at pics and you'll see why).

The reason my preference goes to the ikari over a deathadder/copperhead, which I consider 'pretty' mice:
1) it doesn't have an (in my eyes) annoying pulsating led logo
2) it looks sleeker, more no-nonsense, and mature for some reason
3) it's said to be heavier, which I like
4) it got a gold class award on DH, and also lots of reviews say it's the best mouse they used up to date

So yeah, I got my reasons.

@Mac Daddy: I found a new one for 50 euros exl shipping, (normally it's 69.99) But I haven't bought it yet. Anyway if you get it before I do, be sure to share your thoughts on it.

The G5 and G9 are great mice, but i think you need to spend some time with the Ikari to see if it suits you or not as mice are a very personal thing. I think the Ikari is the best mouse available right now but I am sure not everyone agrees.

Only way is to try it ......
