Thrustmaster have been in operation for many years manufacturing PC and video game accessories and today we’ll be looking at their limited edition T.Flight Hotax S joystick supplied with the new Tom Clancy fighter pilot simulation, HAWX.

To test the bundle we decided to use the fantastic XFX 4890 to power the graphics - this card won our highest Heavenly Gold Award in recent testing.

Well, I didn't expect this review, but I am very glad you did it. I am convinced you guys have something that scans my thoughts, whenever I am thinking about buying something, next day you have a review of a (similar) product. I am worried.
The review was great as always. That's like saying the sky is blue.

I was checking some comments from people who bought them and lo and behold, the game HAWX uses no DRM to speak of. Why don't they mention this more I don't understand, not reviews, we have had this conversation before. Anyway it is a HUGE bonus that. Of course the game is still stupid for not allowing you to fly in pro mode from any camera view but a remote and to the side...

The joystic itself looks good. Is it heavy enough to stay in place with sudden movements? I don't see any suction cups underneath it.

It is very possible I will buy this one this week, thanks to the review.

Hey BlueMak,

I actually found the Joystick to be quite good in that respect. If I purposely pushed the stick around with excessive force (outside of a game) it did left off the table but ONLY when the two units were seperated and not joined together.

However, in game I actually never experienced any issues with the joystick lifting off the table, even in quick dogfights with rapid changes of direction and movement. (I used the two pieces seperated, not joined)

That's great, thank you. Have you tried it with any PC military flight sims?

Re: Thrustmaster T. Flight Hotas X/HAWX Review @ DH

Looks like a nice joystick. I have Flight Simulator X, though it's not currently installed (was taking too much space for something I don't play). A good joystick might make it more fun (I find that flying on the PC is harder than flying a real plane, in my limited experience). HAWX looks fun, too.

Yes, DH you screw me once again!!!! (I kid)

I would pre order it, but I am leaving for Greece in early June and I am afraid I won't be able to collect it.

I will keep trying for a couple more days and hope for the best.

Re: Thrustmaster T. Flight Hotas X/HAWX Review @ DH

Hi Zardon, or anybody who has tried this flight stick on the PC. Can you tell me if this flight stick combo comes with motors for vibration in PC games like MS flight Sim X or the PC version of HAWX?

I'm not expecting true force feedback with ultra-realistic physics forces but I would like to at least experience vibration as you get with the Xbox 360 controller when you use it with the PC version of HAWX.

The older Ace Combat 5 PS2 Flight Stick 2 bundle came with a Flight Stick 2 HOTAS design made by Hori that was also compatible with PC games and was capable of vibration if not force feedback, (see this article: IGN: Ace Combat Flight Stick 2 ).

Flights Stick 2 by Hori bundled with the Ace Combat 5 PS2 bundle

For future implementation of vibration/force feedback in games it's important to appreciate that the direct X implementation code has changed from DirectInput (which was PC only) to the Xbox friendly Xinput, that's why the Xbox controllers work with the PC if the game is coded correctly. See this article: XInput and DirectInput

However this also means that you're older force feedback/vibrating gamepad/joysticks will not work with some new Games for Windows titles that have not been coded correctly which I found out when I bought a Logitech Force 3-D flight stick a couple of days ago to use with HAWX. It doesn't vibrate like they Xbox 360 controller in HAWX to does work in MS flight Sim X, so it's not a complete waste of money.

As Microsoft flight Sim X is a true simulator and HAWX is more arcade action based how would like a Xinput compatible flight sticks (as implemented in the Xbox 360 controller) to experience the new vibration calculations coding in all future Games for Windows titles like HAWX, which really enhances your gaming experience.

Any suggestions appreciated as it feels like I am looking for "Red October" and I don't want to waste any more money like I did on the logic Force 3-D flight stick.

Re: Thrustmaster T. Flight Hotas X/HAWX Review @ DH

Well I'm no expert on flight sticks, I have a Saitek Cyborg Evo Force stick, which has good force feedback, but as you said it depends on the software coding.

I can tell you that this T.Flight has no vibration or force feedback feature whatsoever. So it doesn't fit your bill.

Thanks
