Re: GeForce Graphics Card Roundup (April 09) @ DH

Very nice round-up, my compliments.

However, is there also a picture of the GTS 250 with the cooler detached? I want to see the core.

It's really remarkable that the GTS is so cold. The 9800GTX (also 65 nm) runs much warmer, even with aftermarket cooling. Even the 9800GTX+ with a 55 nm core is warmer :s

Maybe a new revision of the core?

Nevertheless a nice review

Impressive roundup. I believe there's a little fault on the last page:
Palit GTX 275
"That said the card does win our Gold award due to its fantastic price point when compared to BFGs model"

While the card got a "DH recommended"-award...

Re: GeForce Graphics Card Roundup (April 09) @ DH

Hmm may have to re-think the GTX260 award, I just clicked on the provided link Tekheads.co.uk and it's been discontinued.

I did a little hunting around though as it's a card i'm highly tempted by and I found an identically specced and similarly cooled gainward model here just in case anyones interested http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showpr...=56&subcat=927

On a seperate note I did raise my concerns when DH initially reviewed the GTX275 that the high temps might have been a contributory factor in the cards not being released to reviewers until they where on the shelves, it appears from viewing the figures that their could have been an element of truth in that. I'd love to see the card temps when SLi-ed in a case with average airflow and the side panel on, im fairly sure they'd either shut down or throttle which is appalling.

I still stand by my theory that this manic current release of cards is nothing more than a last minute panic at getting the 200-series cores out of the factories as quick as possible. I honestly think that win7 and more notably DX11 is far nearer release than previously thought and the newer series cards will be ready for launch. Whilst their is nothing wrong with the cards reviewed today I can't help but feel in the current economic climate i'd feel seriously upset if I invested in one of the reviewed products only to miss out on the next generation of features.

Nice post Bro and that also brings into account the current NV renaming scheme. Who thought of this Goober from Andy Griffith

As Stu said on the GTX 275 I think those will be lower on the retail release ... we will see

As the review said, its a completely redesigned card with better components, all of which combine to create a cooler card, not just GPU.

Here's an alternative link: Video Cards - PALIT 896MB GeF GTX 260 SONIC 216SP PCI-E 2.0 RET Product Info - 0871 230 0540 Specialist in PC / Laptop Components Sales. CPU Memory Hard Drives Flash Networking KSN Online 0871 230 0540 Specialist in PC / Laptop Components Sales. CPU plenty in stock, looks like Tekheads just decided not to order any more in so its "discontinued" at their store.

As for the temps. Nvidia have set the card to not go above 86c, when it hits that the fan spins up to keep it there. As the fan never hits 100%, or anywhere near, there is no chance of them overheating when in sli and throttling.
