Antec Fusion Remote Max - HTPC Case Review @ DH

Read The Review here

Antec are very well known for their high end PC cases and have an impressive selection of PSU’s that are so reliable they carry a 5-Year warranty. Enthusiasts and gamers are not their only target market however as the product catalogue also features a range of HTPC cases. Today we have one of the higher specification models on our test bench, the Fusion Remote Max which is designed to house a HTPC system with no need to cut corners on the component specifications.

I don't like it. It looks like a 20-25 year old hi-fi system, or at least the tape part of it.

At least it looks big enough, but if size is not a problem, why not get a cheaper normal pc case?

Nice review but I don't really care for the appearance either or the price. Some cable management and painting the interior black would have made it a bit more appealing although it is roomy.

The colour of the inside is important on a case without windows?

Of course. Who wants to work inside a case that's not black?

As well as the inside I also meant to include the rear panel colour which would look better black.

Secondly the interior surfaces aren't painted black for appearance only the NZXT Panzerbox has no windows either. Might be more apparent on an aluminum chassis as opposed to steel but black surfaces draw heat aiding in case cooling.

ermm. if black on a chassis absorbs heat, then surely on the same principle the outside of the case which is also black is taking in ambient heat and warming up everything inside it?

I don't really see the need for black inside a case if there are no windows.

Black surfaces draw heat away from the components in the case same as in a stove or engine compartment of a car.

Cosmetically though the rear panel would look better black and the case overall if the interior was black as well.

.
Actually black absorbs all colours of light so it should technically absorb more heat from an outside source than internal as there will be no light coming from inside a chassis. Therefore in practise the heat would be absorbed from the outside of the case and would pass internally over time heating up ambient air inside the case. Some manufacturers actually leave the inside of chassis naked or pure aluminum because there is a theory that the heat wont move internally due to this.

A similar principle is in place with cricketeers and a lot of sports men, they wear white to reflect light from the sun outdoors to stay cooler.

Either way black is only useful internally for appearance purposes if the chassis had visible panels to see into it. I dont think it matters if the internals are fur lined with fox skin.

Re: Antec Fusion Remote Max - HTPC Case Review @ DH

Interesting post Alex then why are there cases without side windows or openings on the side panels with the interiors painted black? (I have one here and I think one has been reviewed here as well)

The fans move the air out of the case painted surfaces help draw it off what is inside. Anyway lets not get to far off topic and I was being nice about the case.

Quite frankly it is hideous and the cable management looks like a plate of spaghetti .. that better?
