PNY 9400 GT & Gigabyte 9600 GT @ DH

9400 GT & 9600 GT Review
______________________

High end graphics cards such as Nvidia’s GTX295 and ATI’s 4870x2 are the stuff of dreams for most of us. With the current economic climate and tightening budgets it is important we focus on some of the more affordable solutions and today we are doing just that by looking at two cards available from the current Nvidia lineup, Gigabyte’s 1GB 9600 GT and a 9400 GT from PNY.

Great review and we don't always need the highest end graphics solution. ATM I would only go with dual GPU solution if my monitor sizes were increased because these only shine at higher resolutions.

On the 9600GT it has been 2 years now current and a damn nice card

Impressive results from both of them.

The 9400GT costs almost as much as a new AAA game on release. Just amazing.

Great review! I'm looking into getting a new graphics card (I think) because my 8800GTX (Newegg.com - EVGA 768-P2-N831-AR GeForce 8800 GTX 768MB 384-bit GDDR3 PCI Express x16 HDCP Ready SLI Supported Video Card - Desktop Graphics / Video Cards) seems a little old. I'm not great at comparing hardware, but would the 9600GT listed here be a significant upgrade from my 8800GTX?

Regardless, this review was cool, I'm surprised to see how inexpensive graphics cards are.

No the 9600GT is basically a replacement for the 8800GT with cooler and smaller die technology. Your card is still strong and a 9800GTX or GTX275 would be a better upgrade.

I would advice against getting a 9800 card. But it also matters what the rest of your system is. As Mac Daddy said the 275 is a very good solution, but again, what is the rest of your PC?

Nice review , 9400gt possibly the lowest price of a gpu you could find and yet can run most games at minimum.
There is also Ati 4550hd , 4350hd.

Well as the guys above me said, only a GTX275 would worth for an upgrade in your case and from the other side an ATI 4870.
But my suggestion is to wait a few months to get a card supporting DX11, because your 8800gtx is still enough strong for games on 19"-22" monitors.

Btw interesting review
