Rosewill Xtreme RX950 PSU @ DH

Rosewill Xtreme RX950 Review
__________________________

Most American computer enthusiasts are familiar with Rosewill who are a sister company to one of the largest online retailers, Newegg. Rosewill's primary goal is to offer (through Newegg) a very wide variety of products, ranging from card readers to computer cases, all at very competitive prices.

That didn't stop them from releasing a few products aimed directly at hardcore enthusiasts, such as the Xtreme RX950-S-B 950W PSU which we will be reviewing today. The specifications of the RX950 look good on paper while it retails at nearly half the price you could find most 950W units today, making it a very attractive deal. It probably is the cheapest 900W+ product you can currently buy in the states. We will thoroughly test it and examine its performance in this review.

Great review and nice looking PSU in this price range. As mentioned I think the 12V @ 20Amp power rails are getting old with enthusiasts as well.

Re: Rosewill Xtreme RX950 PSU @ DH

I bought one and my PC caught fire. Lost my brand new Gigabyte AM3 mobo and ATI 3780 vid card and my CoolIT Domino. None of the companies I bought parts from would give me a refund due to "fire" damage. After calling and begging them everyday for a month they gave in except for HIS.

Well I finally got all my pieces back yesterday. All new mobo, vid card, and even my water cooler. Rebuilt my machine with this PSU last night and the first time it blew my circuit and the blue smoke of death poured out the back. This happened TWICE in a row.

Went to Newegg and read some of the comments. Turns out same shit happened to 30% of the users. Called Rosewill and they blamed it on a defect. I even had my $300 APC screaming OVERLOAD!. Fuck this card. This card was made by the Unibomber.

Re: Rosewill Xtreme RX950 PSU @ DH

while i personally don't put much weight into customer reviews specially from newegg......

that's ALOT of the same problems that shouldn't be happening and are quite dangerous to deal with.... seeing reviews like that from anyone would emediately steer me away quite quickly.

BTW DHJShamrock, those pictures do indeed look very much like one of the machines i had that had the psu fry the whole machine to hell (actually caused a fire)

course the case i had looked a bit worse as there was no plastic left on the cpu fan header/fan wires, the PCI-EX slot was roasted in somewhat the same way (killing the x300 ati card) and the ram northbridge fan was also cooked. Almost all of the capacitors around the cpu were toasted.... The thing is, the machine was running fine with a temporary PSU i had from OCZ... no issues..... and then it was replaced with an off brand model that i didn't want to put into the machine to begin with. Wasn't more then about 1 hour when the smoke got to me and by the time i got over there, it was somewhat on fire.

Just happy the hardrive didn't get burnt as well.

Nice to see customer service here and +1 for you

I am still curious why your company has chosen to use 12V power rails under 20 amps for this?

I sent it to Newegg today and they gave me my money back. The only reason the fire wasn't worse was I had the side of my case open enough to blow out the fire after I pulled the plug.

What I am worried about is when I get my new CORSAIR CMPSU-750TX (gretest reviews BTW) that mt new mobo will be toasred again. Gigabyte was very hard to get my last RMA due to fire. And I bought it from Zipzoomfly.com and they were just complete dicks about it.

Gigabyte did replace both of my mobos that thid PSU fried though so I would have a backup mobo, but it won't be AM3. But if I was Gigabyte and I got 2 mobos fried in a row I wouldn't replace it.

OH TEAH, BONUS it also fried my APC 1200 GS back-ups and I just replaced the batteries in that a couple weeks ago. Now everytime I turn it on I get a "OVERLOAD" warning with a loud screaming noise. I called APC and they are awesome. They are sending me a new APC 1200 no questions asked.

Oh and Newegg.com has been amazing through this ordeal. Every other company has just treated me like crap. Newegg sent me a UPS label to ship the PSU back to them, they paid for it. They told me to call them when it showed UPS picked it up and they would send my money back to my Paypal account. Which they did. I live in TN so I have to pay sales tax of like 10% but it's worth it. I always get my shipments in 2 days no matter how I ship cause they ship from TN. When you get an RMA you just go to their site, fill out a form and they automatically RMA your money back in less than 30 days or replace for up to a year on everything. But they sell "extra" insurace on products that do the same exact terms which is kind of shady.

Morals of the story, read the cutomer reviews. I always thought the only one's who post a review are pissed off cause their parts are broke. Most people are too lazy to write a review otherwise. That's the only reason I bought this bucket of ass PSU. I would rather install a PSU built by the Unibomber than anything from Rosewill. Hey I get their name. When die in a fire you will get "Roses" and better have a "Will."

Um, if your first 2 Power Supplies caught fire, popped so loud and had blue smoke and sparks fkying out the back, wrecked about $2000 in equipment do you really think I would want a third one? I am a professional graphic designer for a living at home. I need a HOME to work from. I have lost so many clients in the past month because of you. I have a Samsung i-760 pocket PC to write this with. Ahhh I just hate you.

kv007 is on a distinguished road

Re: Rosewill Xtreme RX950 PSU @ DH

Sorry to bring up an old topic, but I wish I would have seen DJShamrock's review prior to purchasing this PS. It blew out my outlets on the second boot up and continued to do so intermittently. I sent it back last week. Hopefully it didn't take anything else down with it. I will NEVER buy another product from Rosewill. The quality is atrocious.
