Damn, for a second I thought this review was for the Auzentech X-FI Hometheater HD HDMI card. I'm sure these are both decent cards for the money as the conclusion suggests but it's hard to get excited when they don't have DD TrueHD or DTS-HD.

The Hometheater HD is a complete joke IMO. You can buy an ATI HD 5850 for damn near the same price and it will has a PAP and is capable of all HD audio codecs. However personally I'd rather just rip and convert all the audio to FLAC myself.

And the Xonar DS looks like a great budget card. However you can buy a DX for only $65CAD, I can't imagine the DS being all that much cheaper.

Yeah, in terms of movies the Auzentech cards do well (speaking about Forte etc) but really they are cards for music lovers.

Sorry to bump this but do you guys know if the auzen forte has the 2-pin spdif connection for audio passthrough to an nvidia card? I notice it has one but its labeled "In" which will probably not work.
Thanks, nice review as always
