Today we take a look at the latest in Alienware/Dells desktop range, the Aurora ALX and run it though a selection of real world tests including gaming at 2560x1600, Photoshop, media encoding and overclocking to find out if their impressive run of form continues.

Over priced Alienware as usual, but at least this time they built a fine system. I like it a lot. Thank you for the review.

Yep they are imrpovinglately but still its overprices but gosh,, they do know that to not so educated users presentation is everything and I mean just look at it! looks awesome and so does the keyboard, mousepad and all of it... would love to own it but aint got the money xD

Should also point out that if you dont mind missing out on the vents and some lighting etc the non ALX Aurora starts at a price which is much more affordable.

with the non-ALX you can also have great overclocking powers, amazing expandability for an mATX system, and you can also go from 3Gig 1066 ram to 12gigs of 1333 ram for only 300 bucks or so which is an amazing price, seeing as how other dell computers charge about another 1000 or so for a similar upgrade.

I can afford one, but I wouldnt buy it.
I just dont need all that power, this is definitely a gaming elitists prestige machine
I know I catch hell for this, but I think its rather ugly.
For the uber gamer, the uber elitist and anyone who wants bragging rights, I suppose this will fill the bill.
as for me......
A really nice Mac or HP will do.
Bloody good review though.
I recall TOP GEAR and listening to the Jeremy or the Hampster talk about the pro and con of owning a sports car, and I think that analogy holds true.
Superior performance comes at a VERY STIFF price, but then that is the Alienware way and now that they are ALIENDELL products, I am sure they want to have the widest footprint on the market, so gamers should be happy with this product.
I request that DH do a sort of TOP GEAR style review of future products, that would be a hoot.

I had a list of superlatives, but they were already used on the Ferrai 458 Italia...oh well.

Would you be able to give me the bios settings or tips on how to reach 3.6Ghz Stably?? Your help would be greatly appreciated. If you can get this working to 3.6Ghz Thanks. I understanding changing the bclk to 180 would get it to 3.6Ghz .. The question is would it boot? What other settings would need to be changed? Appreciate it once again.

HI, the machine has now been returned to Dell/Alienware so I cannot check which exact settings were used. It was pretty simple though... a few voltage tweaks and of course the Bclk increase.
