ASUS K50IN Laptop @ DH
ASUS K50IN Review
_________________ Today we are going to look at the Asus K50IN notebook that is kitted out for menial tasks and multimedia playback. So it provides more power than their netbook range, but significantly less than you’ll get with one of their gaming-orientated notebooks. |

Re: ASUS K50IN Laptop @ DH
Thank you for the review.
For the price in the UK, it is a bit over priced. I just checked the price in Greece. There are two models of it, the same only that one has 7 premium with the G102M and the other has 7 pro with Intel 4500. The first at 699 euros and the latter at 799. Way too expensive and definitely not worth the money, you can find cheaper and better laptops easily even here. Things I don't like about it (apart from the price), the lack of HDMI and the feeling there are too few expansion ports. The squeezed keypad and arrow keys are bad IMO. Whenever I had to use some, I had to slow down to make sure I don't press two keys or even the wrong key. I can see why they can be good to include them, but still...

Re: ASUS K50IN Laptop @ DH
I guess the Dell Inspiron 13z you reviewed earlier is a better buy to do menial tasks and multimedia playback..

Re: ASUS K50IN Laptop @ DH
Just a couple notes about the K50 series. I sell the K50IJ-D2 quite a lot (as well as Lenovos Ideapad G550), and it really is a great series. One thing that stands out to me about the K50 series is that it comes with a 2 year global warranty with the 1rst year covering the battery too.
The other thing which wasn't mentioned in the review was that the entire series (excluding the K50AB) comes with both Windows 7 restore discs (or Vista if you happen to get the K50IJ model, but you can send in for the Win7 upgrade), and Windows XP Pro restore discs. It comes with either Vista or 7 installed by default, and switching to either is simple. The only thing with the XP restore disc is that entire procedure redoes the drive as FAT32, and you have to convert it to NTFS after the fact via a simple batch file on the desktop. There is another hitch I describe HERE, but it's too much to go into in this thread. In any case, this is a great laptop for the price. The screen on this series is much sharper than the one on the Lenovo Ideapad G550, however the Lenovo has an HDMI port. Something I wish Asus had included here. Also, if you look around you can find a proper full sized keyboard version of the K50IN and K50IJ (I know that with the K50IJ there is a -C1 version that has a proper full sized keyboard.. pretty much anything that doesn't have -BIL in the model should be have a regular keyboard). |

I've moved only 1 one of the K50's.. however with an Intel Graphic chipset (i'm still pro intel graphics chipset for laptops as i'm still seeing a swath of Nvidia graphics laptops coming in with due to the nvidia gpu failing) I'm selling the K70's like hotcakes though. People are in love with them. Again preferrably selling the one with the intergrated Intel chipset. I've only sold one machine where "games" are being played and unfortunately i haven't come across a newer Asus laptop with an ATI graphics adapter, It's quite irritating and unfortunate...
