Today on our test bench we have the latest chipset from AMD which they hope will be attractive to consumers, offing many of the features present on the 785G and adding to this functionality such as SATA 6GB/s. We will be finding out how boards from Asus, Foxconn and Gigabyte perform in a selection of real world gaming, multimedia and productivity tasks to find out which is worth your hand earned cash.

The Foxconn should be sold at much lower price if to get any points from me. I just don't get the lack of USB3.0 support.

My question is, can the 890GX support the coming 6 and 8 core AMD cpus? Because if they can't, and since they come out very soon, it doesn't feel like there is any good reason to go with it.

Damn, I even wrote a post there. lol

Well, then this changes everything.

Apart from the Foxconn offer, that still makes no sense.

Re: AMD/ATI 890GX Chipset Launch Review @ HH

Well, this is basically a mild refresh of the 785G chipset, so not much to get excited about. With the exclusion of 16+16 Crossfire support, it seems that this won't be the premium solution for the season. Hopefully, the 890FX, or whatever they call it, will be what we want and will turn the 890GX boards into value oriented solutions.

Won't the existing AM3 boards support the upcoming 6-core CPUs?

I thought this was an update for the 790GX and the 785G was an update for either the 760G or 780G?

Anyway, eBuyer are listing the Asus board at £122 (pre-order price) which puts it a bit cheaper than the 790FX deluxe board.

The question is do any of these boards support Asymmetric crossfire and if they do what in the blue hell is it?

Re: AMD/ATI 890GX Chipset Launch Review @ HH

Judging by it's model number, this chipset is is supposed to take the place of 790GX, but I was more referring to it's features and specs which, apart from the higher frequency on the GPU, are pretty much identical with those of 785G.
