SteelSeries 6Gv2 Keyboard @ HH

SteelSeries 6Gv2 Keyboard

For quite some time the gaming keyboard market has concentrated on products which add macro buttons, re-assignments, profiles, USB and audio pass-through and weighted key actions to enhance the gaming experience. In addition to this we see branded products such as the Razer StarCraft 2 gear and SteelSeries Medal of Honor products however few manufacturers have looked to release high quality mechanical keyboards for the gaming masses.

I just learned something from this review, that PS2 has one advantage that it does not require polling, does it still make a diff nowadays with dual/quad core cpus? That's interesting.

I wish this had illuminated keys. I have no doubt it is a great keyboard, the review was clear on that, but no light make a BlueMak an unhappy smiley face.

It will make a small difference, but not huge and of course the further up the CPU range you go the less it matters. Still, for these CS guys who play at 800x600 low detail etc and want max perfomance etc its something that probably matters.

Re: SteelSeries 6Gv2 Keyboard @ HH

This model isn't too expensive for what it is either, so if I were looking for a keyboard with full height keys this is the one I'd go for. The weight is impressive right away when you get to hold it and the keys are not excessively noisy.

Using the PS/2 connector with this keyboard allows for limitless simultaneous keypresses, whereas USB is limited to like six keys plus modifiers(ctrl, alt, etc.). PS/2 is generally not hot-plug'able on the other hand, prone to freeze up a system if changed out on the fly.

Re: SteelSeries 6Gv2 Keyboard @ HH

does the 6Gv2 have the same form as the 7G minus the wristrest?

i always wondered if i could just buy a 6Gv2 in the case that my 7G goes out and just stick it in the 7G wristrest.

Anyone considering getting this. Stop thinking about it. Order it. NOW.
Typing\gaming on the 6Gv2 keyboard is like massage for the fingers. You don't want to stop using the keyboard.

To my knowledge the 7G has no version with the Return key being of the _| variety. The 6gv2 US has the _| Return key.

For me that's more important than a couple of ports.

I share the same experience on another mechanical keyboard. I was quite surprised but the comfort compared to the short stroke keys that I used to love is astounding. I got me a Qpad MK-50 that comes with the red Cherry MX switches that takes less force to press down but otherwise identical to the black that 6Gv2 uses. The MK-50 is not a light keyboard but the 6Gv2 is noticeably heavier and I don't doubt that it's likely also the sturdier of the two, otherwise they are very similar in design.

That's a pretty strong recommendation, I'm glad it's all worked out.

Thank you and thank you for the review and input.

Obviously it's a matter of taste too, but it feels so good typing with this keyboard...I just can't believe it.

The only thing you have to be aware of, is that there is no Windows key at the left side, there is a Steelseries button for media keys. It's an awesome keyboard, I just wished if they had made that key programmable by software.
