Cooler Master Cosmos II Case Review @ HH
Cooler Master Cosmos II Case Review
Today Cooler Master return to the Cosmos family with the launch of the Cosmos 2. This ultra tower chassis features aspects which remind us of the original Cosmos from 2007 but Cooler Master have brought it right up to date with more advanced features and an evolved design. We have one on our test bench so let's see what the case has to offer. |

A special case, no doubt. I couldn't see myself building anything else than a server in one though. I wonder if the drive sleds are any good.

Re: Cooler Master Cosmos II Case Review @ HH
A Canadian review says this case is $350 USD and another says same price in Europe which if true should guarantee a "0" for Value. At that price I would expect far less plastic parts and the cable management to be absolutely neat and tidy but right out of the box it is a total mess. It should also have better airflow than anything else over $200 but I'm skeptical of that with such small fans.
I like a lot of what I saw, the removable drive cage is cool not to mention having 6 drives down by the PSU is great and there is lots of room for cable management and airflow but the price is killing me. It would easily be $400 after shipping that's twice what I paid for this monster FT02 so it would have to be better in every respect for me to upgrade.

Re: Cooler Master Cosmos II Case Review @ HH
I am considering this case as an upgrade to my current case. What my current case has is filters on the fan intakes to significantly reduce the amount of dust that I get in my case. I heard that this case has the same but I am unable to confirm.
Can you confirm this Mr. reviewer? |

Re: Cooler Master Cosmos II Case Review @ HH
Are the filters easily removed and cleaned/vacuumed etc? Just curious. Thanks!

Re: Cooler Master Cosmos II Case Review @ HH
If they are anything like the original Cosmos 1000 case, then yes, they are easily removed and cleaned. There are tracks that they just slide out and back in again. I've got the original and I love the thing. My only complaint is that I had to do some tinkering in order to get my SSD drive to fit in there ok but back in 07, the drives weren't anywhere near retail yet so I really can't bitch about it. It fits all my other drives in there just fine and everything runs smooth as silk.

Got a price for it in NZ now. NZ$669 (thats's US$529 or GBP346)! Bit pricey!

Re: Cooler Master Cosmos II Case Review @ HH
If I ever decide to turn my PC into a Media server with say 5-6 large capacity drives in some sort of RAID configuration I'd probably be interested in this case due to all the drive bays (my case only has 5 3.5HD bays+SSD attachment).
No lie, the shipping on this case is $70 from Newegg Canada which brings it up to about $475 after tax I paid $200 shipping included for my second hand FT02 which makes me want to hold onto this one even longer (despite it being a cumbersome case).

Re: Cooler Master Cosmos II Case Review @ HH
Fairly certain I will get this case in the coming months. I was planning on getting a 4 bay NAS after one of my HD's crapped out and I lost tons of movies but it's actually cheaper to get this behemoth and turn my PC into a NAS. That and I can't fit a 3 slot gpu cooler in my case without removing my sound card so the extra space will be appreciated. I'll buy it locally though these things are getting damaged in shipping big time you know it's a bad sign when most of the reviewers even got broken ones.

Re: Cooler Master Cosmos II Case Review @ HH
If you can't fit a 3-slot GPU cooler in your system without removing the soundcard what good is changing the case going to do?

Re: Cooler Master Cosmos II Case Review @ HH
It means he can overflow the bottom of the board, putting multiple-slot cards in the bottom slot.

Re: Cooler Master Cosmos II Case Review @ HH
while i like some of the idea...
i wonder and think..... if only they made a version with the motherboard turned 90 degrees and fed all of the components out the top of the case as they have more than enough of a good design to do it. and happy with the front ports.... but the other issue they still haven't addressed is that due to the sheer height of the case, unless your have the computer sitting on the floor (which i avoid at all costs)..... makes for usb ports pretty much out of reach in some cases or just awkward... I think they could provide at least 2 usb ports near the bottom too...

Re: Cooler Master Cosmos II Case Review @ HH
From what I read in the OCN owners thread Coolermaster is halting all shipping of Cosmos II so they can redo the packaging to survive shipping.

considering this thing weighs about half of a metric ton, you'd have thought they'd have made sure they had the packaging sorted from the get go tbh

Re: Cooler Master Cosmos II Case Review @ HH
I already broke the top cover latch on the Cosmos II, I couldn't see any mechanism so I figured you just pulled it off like most cases. Nope apparently there is some tiny thin plastic latch on a thumb screw you rotate to unlock it. I didn't even know it was broken until I saw the thumb screw and wondered what it was doing there. Can't believe how cheap that is of Cooler Master
![]() Anyway, this happened as I was installing a couple of Gentle Typhoon fans and I love them, gonna have to put them all over the case they are soo quiet and move tons of air. Don't even care about damage to case that's how pleased I am with these fans (and the rest of the case which is quite awesome overall).

Re: Cooler Master Cosmos II Case Review @ HH
Presumably there'll be a 2nd revision. I am yet again astounded by a company's lack of pre-release testing.
