Sapphire Radeon 7950 Overclock Edition vs 7970 OC vs GTX 580 OC vs 6970 OC @ HH
Sapphire Radeon 7950 Overclock Edition vs 7970 OC vs GTX 580 OC vs 6970 OC
Regardless of the reason for its "late" arrival the 7950 launches today and one of our launch day cards is Sapphires 7950 Overclock. With a custom PCB and cooler this factory overclocked card has two different BIOS profiles and is without doubt one of the more interesting models available. We will be putting it up against overclocked versions of the GTX 580 3GB, 7970 and 6970 to find out how each performs on Intel i7/X79 @ 5.0GHz. |

Ahh! HH has so many 7950 reviews all at once I can barely process all this information!
It's like you told me you're getting married to my mom...who you met yesterday...and your last two wives died mysteriously. Or something like that. Good job giving us every kind of review possible I know that's a ton of work.Anyway, the Sapphire OC version looks really good to me, I was surprised to see it overclock more than the XFX BE model. I've read early reports of these cards being flashed with 7970 bios that allows them to overclock further but even now they already look like a good choice and performance is equal to 7970. From the prices on Canadian sites it looks like these non reference 7950 are $100 cheaper than the same 7970 version that's good savings.

It will be interesting to see what sucess people have flashing as a number of these cards will be custom designs and I have yet to see one with an 8pin connector like the 7970. As you say pricing is much more reasonable also which is always a bonus!
Thanks for the feedback too, much appreciated

Great cards and great job reviewing them.
I've noticed that, by popular demand, you included the PhysX Off test for GeForce cards and it's appreciated.

Including both on and off values is definitely the best solution

looks like the potential of moving to a 7950 has increased by over 9000%!

The comments on Tom's Hardware and AnandTech are getting pretty nasty over these 7950's. Glad I'm in a community of above average intelligence individuals....or just not below average.
Is the price really not fair based on the power, noise, and performance versus the GTX 580? I think the Sapphire 7950 OE is a pretty awesome card.
