Hacker breaks Nvidia protection - PhysX for everyone

The jolly green giants Nvidia recently blocked PhysX support when an ATI board is included in a system build for graphics rendering.

The latest version of the PhysX system software also prevents physics processing cards from working if any other card apart from Nvidia is being used. Many people have been debating whether Nvidia are breaking some ethical conduct by forcing these rules on the end user.

Fear ye not, because a guy going by the name of GenL on the NGO forums appears to have patched Nvidia's 'disable if ATI card is present' PhysX code.

It is still a work in progress but you can try it for yourself over here

I can only assume that if one works two will follow suit

In the end you still have to have an nVidia card operating the physx

I think it just enables you to run physx if you have primary Ati card + secondary nVidia card just like before nvidia disabled this function.

i think it was dumb for them to disableing the physx for ati thats money they can make plus get more games with physx..

hmmm, so you will still need an nvidia card.. how many games do utilize PhysX? is there like a list somewhere? this might be enough for me to buy some el cheapo card for PhysX support

I am a Nvidia user and prefer their cards. However if I remember rightly, Nvidia stated that they would allow systems with ATi cards to run the PhysX software - even on ATi boards.

This is a good step methinks, PhysX for all

As I understand it, this is what Nvidia originally said. It would be up to ATI or a third party to provide PhysX support for non-Nvidia cards.

However, since then it has become apparent that Nvidia has changed its mind.

Also, I remember a while ago there was a rumor that some guy managed to get PhysX actually running on an ATI card. I guess it was just a rumor, though.

everyone jump on it imo..... i was thoroughly pissed off when i tracked everything down when i first started my physx with ati primary card compaign and found out nvidia purposely disabled it..

good piss them off.. they deserve it since they purposely bitched slapped the customers interested in using THEIR products for physx.
